When in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes             每因財富蒙羞遭人白眼，

I all alone beweep my outcast state,                           吾為被棄之狀獨自哀泣，

And trouble deaf heav’n with my bootless cries,          哭有何用去煩聾聵蒼天，

And look upon myself, and curse my fate,                    垂影自顧，咒命運不濟，

Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,                   但願象某君前程更遠大，

Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,      似其威勢，似彼風雲際會，

Desiring this man’s art, and that man’s scope,             渴望此人視野，彼人才華，

With what I most enjoy contented least;                     最得意之事最不如意矣；

Yet in these thoughts myself almost despising,            然在此思緒中自我氣惱，

Haply I think on thee, and then my state,                   驀然想起君，吾狀於是乎

Like to the lark at break of day arising                       猶黎明時分雀躍百靈鳥，

From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven’s gate.        從陰霾大地，飛天門高唱讚詩。

For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings    富埒王侯兮因想起君之寵愛

That then I scorn to change my state with kings.        吾狀皇位不可換遂嬉笑顏開。
