Paul Walker -- Speed, Not Mechanical Failure, Caused Fatal Crash (video)
http://www.tmz.com/2014/03/25/paul-walker-death-crash-speed-mechanical-failure/
Paul Walker died as a result of speeding and not mechanical problems.
A source connected with the CHP -- which did the speed analysis
-- tells TMZ
The Associated Press quotes a source from the L.A. County
Sheriff's Dept. -- the agency that conducted the mechanics analysis
-- who says the crash was NOT the result of mechanical
failure.
Investigators also noted the tires were 9 years old. Shortly after Paul died ... law enforcement sources told us they were the original tires on the car and they had hardened ... which means it lost traction on the road.
TMZ broke a story in December ... Porsche had
issued a memo to its dealers 9 years ago
warning them the 2004 Porsche Carrera GT could be dangerous to an
untrained driver.
Investigators say there was no evidence a second car was involved in the collision.
They also said an after-market exhaust system had been installed, which would have increased the engine's horsepower. According to investigators, the coroner's office determined neither Walker nor Rodas had alcohol or drugs in his system at the time of the crash.
TMZ broke the story ... Walker and Roger Rodas died Nov. 30 from a combination of the impact and fire.
During the investigation, German Porsche mechanics flew to L.A. to examine the car .... analyzing the Carrera GT's brakes, engine, body and a tire that wasn't destroyed in the fire.

Paul Walker car crash was caused by speed - not mechanical problems: investigators
The actor's good friend, who also perished in the crash, was going between 81 mph and 94 mph when his Porsche began to drift as it lost control after coming out of a curve.
Paul Walker was in the passenger seat when good friend Roger Rodas when his 2005 Porsche Carrera GT, going between 81 mph and 94 mph, began to drift as it lost control.
The Porsche carrying "Fast & Furious" star Paul Walker was traveling approximately 90 mph when it lost control on a suburban street and crashed, killing the actor and his friend, according to an investigation by law enforcement agencies into the November accident.
The sports car slammed into a light pole which had a speed limit sign of 45 mph, killing Walker and Roger Rodas in a fiery wreck.
Investigators concluded that unsafe driving, not mechanical problems, caused the crash, according to a person who has reviewed a report by the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department and California Highway Patrol. Investigators calculated that Rodas was driving between 81 mph and 94 mph when his 2005 Porsche Carrera GT began to drift as it lost control after coming out of a curve.
"The vehicle had no mechanical failure and the damage that occurred to the vehicle was from the collision," accident reconstruction specialists with the Highway Patrol wrote, according to the person, who requested anonymity because the report has not been officially released yet.
A spokeswoman said Tuesday that the Sheriff's Department had no new information to release regarding the investigation into the Nov. 30 crash. "We will have something in the very near future," department spokeswoman Nicole Nishida wrote in an email. The CHP declined comment.
The Associated Press reported in December that investigators had found no evidence that the car had mechanical problems and ruled out debris or other roadway conditions.
Subsequently, Porsche sent engineers to California to review the rare car's wreckage. Though it was badly mangled and burned, the engineers were able to do a thorough analysis. They found no problems with the car's electrical systems, brakes, throttle, fuel system, steering, suspension or other systems.
Porsche declined a request for comment Tuesday.
The conclusion about the speed was based on a "yaw" mark on the road that the car's tire left on the road in an area of industrial office parks in Santa Clarita, about 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. Witnesses told a sheriff's deputy that they thought the car could have been traveling in excess of 100 mph.
Firefighters extinguish the fire in the car where actor Paul Walker was killed.
Post-crash investigators noted several issues with the condition of the car, which had several prior owners, including IndyCar driver Graham Rahal:
-Its original exhaust system had been modified in a way that could allow it to go faster, but also could have been done to change its sound.
-Its tires were about nine years old; the owner's manual suggests changing the tires after four years.
-Its left rear brake rotor was worn below manufacturer specifications, but that did not contribute to the crash.
Fans pay tribute to Paul Walker at the site of his fatal car accident.
Rodas, 38, and Walker, 40, had taken what was supposed to be a quick ride from a fundraiser benefiting Reach Out Worldwide, a Walker charity that gives first-response aid to victims of natural disasters. The crash occurred near the fundraiser, and horrified friends of the men raced to the scene.
While Rodas was Walker's financial adviser, the two had bonded over their shared love of fast cars. They co-owned an auto racing team named after Rodas' shop, Always Evolving, and Rodas drove professionally for the team on the Pirelli World Challenge circuit in 2013.
Walker starred in all but one of the six "Fast & Furious" blockbusters, which glorify muscular cars and risky driving.

Paul Walker's fatal crash explained at last.
There have been multiple theories behind exactly how Walker and his friend lost control of the vehicle on the day of their fatal accident, but now the true reasons behind the crash are finally coming to light.
Sources close to law enforcement officials have verified that the crash was a result of speeding. The Porsche Carrera GT is said to have been travelling between 80 to 93 mph around the corner where the accident occurred.
An insider from L.A. County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that there was no mechanical failure within the vehicle as had been previously theorized.
There is one crucial aspect of the crash that has been overlooked until now though. The tires. According to sources, the tires on the car had not been changed since 2005 and were the original factory fittings.
If this is true, then the Porsche would not be 100 percent safe to drive in even everyday conditions. Let alone at speed. The rubber in tyres deteriorates over time making the structure weaker and more prone to tread separation. In the words of Sean Kane, president of Safety Research & Strategies, Inc an old tire is comparable to;
If you take a rubber band that's been sitting around a long time and stretch it, you will start to see cracks in the rubber. That's essentially what happens to a tire that's put on a vehicle and driven. Cracks in the rubber begin to develop over time. They may appear on the surface and inside the tire as well. This cracking can eventually cause the steel belts in the tread to separate from the rest of the tire
Therefore, even if the tread pattern looked acceptable to the naked eye, there could be hidden dangers lurking beneath.
Paul Walker and Roger Rodas
The driver of the car, Walker's close friend Roger Rodas was a former professional racer, so the tire revelation does make the crash more understandable to me.
While I would never want to condone speeding, Rodas was clearly confident he could handle the Porsche at high speeds or he would not have put his own, and his friends life in grave danger.
The combination of lethal speed and a simple case of poor vehicle maintenance appear to be the cause of this tragic loss of life.
What an awful waste.
