这四个动词都有“打”的意思，但用法不尽相同：

1.hit表示“有目标地打”，着重“打击”某一点。如：

He hit him on the face．他打了他的脸。

也有“打击，袭击，打中”之意。如：

One of the stones hit the window. 有一块石头打中了窗户。

An earthquake hit the district. 这个地区受到了地震的袭击。

2.beat表示“连续地打或拍”，有“殴打、击败”之意。如：

That man was beaten until he was black and blue．那个人被打得青一块、紫一块。

 The Iraq army was beaten.  伊拉克军队被打败了。

另外，beat还可表示心脏或脉搏等“跳动”。如：

He could feel his heart beating fast．他能感到他的心跳快。

3.knock表示“敲；打；撞击”之意时常与at／on连用。如：

Listen！Who is knocking at／on the door？听！谁在敲门呢？

He knocked the girl down.  他把那个女孩撞倒了。

4.strike表示突然地、一次性地“打；击”，不一定都是有意的。如：

 She was struck dead by lightning．她被雷电击死了。

  Strike while the iron is hot.    趁热打铁。

The clock is striking 12.    钟在敲12点。
