Elizabeth Bishop
The art of losing isn't hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.
Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.
Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.
I lost my mother's watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses went.
The art of losing isn't hard to master.
I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn't a disaster.
—Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan't have lied. It's evident
the art of losing's not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster
这首诗在片中诠释为:"she
wants to sound detached;she wants to sound like it doesn't
matter,'cause she knows, deep down how bad it's gonna feel to
lose
Mr.:just take u time .maggie.listen to the words as you're about to say them.nine times out of 10. u'll hear a mistake coming and you'll correct it before you make it. then again .you might make a total ass of yourself. oh.come on.poetry's supposed to be slow.
Maggie: the art of losing isn't hard to master, so many things seem filled with the intent to be lost that loss is no disaster.lose someting every day. Accept the fluster of lost door keys.the home hadly spent.i lose two cities two rivers a continen . i miss them. but it wasn't a disater.even losing you the joking voice a gesture i love ,i shouldn't have lied.it's evident.the art of losing's not too hard to master .though it look though it may look like(write it!) like disaster
Mr.:well,what do you think?
Maggie:good.
Mr.:unacceptable answer.what's the poem about?
Maggie: i don't know.
Mr.:yes.you do. what's it about?
Maggie:losing.
Mr.:what?
Maggie:love.
Mr.:ah?and how about that? is the love lost already?is Bishop writing about it as a possibility.a probability? what?
Maggie:well.in the begining she's talking about losing real things, like keys.and then she gets, like she lost a continent.
Mr.:she's getting grandiose.
Maggie:yeah.and the way she says it is like---like it doesn't matter.
Mr.:ah.her tone would you call it detached?
Maggie:i think she wants to sound detached.you know she wants to sound..like it doesn't matter..cause she knows , deep down how bad it's gonna feel to lose.
Mr.:lose what? or whom?is it a lover?
Maggie:no.it's a friend.
Mr.:A-plus. smart girl

女主角在护理院给老人读书的这一段很精彩,虽然最后导演没明说,但是暗示女主因为这件事情也找到了自己的真爱。
I Carry Your Heart with Me ---- e.e. Cummings
i carry your heart with me
(i carry it in my heart)
i am never without it
(anywhere
i go you go,my dear; and whatever is done
by only me is your doing, my darling)
? ? i fear
no fate (for you are my fate, my sweet) i
want
no world (for beautiful you are my world, my
true)
and it's you are whatever a moon has always
meant
and whatever a sun will always sing is you
here is the deepest secret nobody knows
(here is
the root of the root and the bud of the bud
and the sky of the sky of a tree called life; which grows
higher than the soul can hope or mind can
hide)
and this is the wonder that's keeping the
stars apart ? i carry your heart (i carry it in my
heart)
