Pianist takes on new role as political advisor

1月29日的重庆市政协四届一次大会第四次大会上，从重庆走出去的国际著名青年钢琴家李云迪，当选为重庆市政协常务委员。

本月25日至29日举行的重庆市政协四届一次大会上，李云迪是第一次作为政协委员参会。对于当选重庆市政协常务委员，李云迪称他感到责任之重，会认真履行政治协商、民主监督、参政议政职能。

30-year-old Yundi Li, China's popular piano star, was elected as a standing committee member to the Chongqing Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on Jan. 29.

Li said he will do his best to uphold his responsibility as a political advisor.

Born in Chongqing, Li is most well known for being the youngest pianist to win the International Frédéric Chopin Piano Competition in 2000 at the age of 18.

"First of all I will put forward proposals in my field of expertise. I will also pay more attention to other fields," Li said.

He considered the annual session an opportunity to learn and discuss issues of importance with other political advisors.

"Besides attending the annual session, I will invest more time and energy to be close to common people and voice local society's needs," Li added, "I hope I can make great contributions to the development of Chongqing."

During the session, Li proposed to set up platforms to introduce more international musicians and cultural celebrities to perform in Chongqing and foster adolescent's interests in classical music.

Li was also moved by the proposals made by other political advisors from different sectors.

"I believe that with the joint efforts of all, Chongqing will surely become a huge international metropolis with all-round development of culture and economy," Li said.

As an ambassador to promote environmental protection in Chongqing, Li appealed to residents from all walks of life to act now to protect the environment.
