　　而箭术最佳者自然就成为统治者，所以词根“arch”表示“为首的；最重要的；首领”意思；这里“arch”原为“arc”。由于英语受到法语的影响+h或h脱落其含义不变，主要是因为法语中h不送气也就是不发音；例如hard可以转变成arduous 依然表示努力的意思。

　　monarch 君主，anarchy 无政府状态，anarchist无政府主义者等都是来源于此词根含义。

　　大家可以通字母“C”形象的想到弓的形状，手臂上拿着弓（arm+arc）所以arc表示弓型的、弧形的；同时游牧民族的屋顶也是弧形的，所以arc又有了“屋顶”的含意。

　　从arch“首领，统治者”这个意义，我们又可以发现“archaic古代”的含意，因为只有古代帝王和统治者才被记入历史史册，真正创造历史的人民群众却淹没于历史的洪流之中，所以archive表示“档案”，考查历史就成了“考古学”archaeology.
