I was very excited with publishing of the book of The Warren Buffett Way 3rd edition. I was once wiped out in the stock market and wondered why I couldn’t survive there. It was this book that made me to take the path of value investment and changed my fate completely. 

At the award ceremony of 2010 Annual Best Researcher with Beijing TV Station, I cried out one sentence buried in my heart for ages. “It is Warren Buffett’s grand thought and wisdom that have rescued me. Every time I can’t stay peaceful when recalling the history.

 

 

Warren Buffett in the Shanghai Securities News on Jan 24th, 1996. It was written by a Chinese American Prof. Sun Di. It was the first article to introduce Buffett. At that time, his name was strange to Chinese investors. The article enlightened me at once. From then on, I have been collecting any information about Buffett.

 

On September, 1996, I was introduced accidentally to a book called The Warren Buffett Way (1st edition). It was about Warren Buffett and published by Yuan-Liou Publishing Co., Ltd on May 1st, 1996.
Over the past 20 years I have read the book as many times as possible and benefited most from it; I have taken the most notes of it and gained most; I also have recommended it to stock investors most. Over the past 20 years this book has witnessed my path of learning, practising and advocating his theories of value investment.  

Up to now I can still remember vividly the moment when I was reading this book. In the preface the author wrote: “As a young professional during the 1980s, I found that my head was perpetually spinning as I tried to keep up with the stock market, the economy, and the constant buying and selling of securities. Yet, each time I read a story about Warren Buffett or an article written by him, his rational voice seemed to rise above the market’s chaos. It was his calming influence that inspired me to write this book.” People who are deeply trapped into the stock market speculating and trading frequently experience too much excitement of the market but they eventually end up unsettled. Under the influence of fear and greed, we constantly buy and sell. While our spirit is tortured, our loss worsens badly. Only those who have experienced that can understand how sad it is!

 

Buffett’s rational voice has made me to see the light afar in the dark night. Longing for help, I have been looking for the right path to success in the book. It says, “Warren Buffett thinks that what he does is not beyond anyone’s ability.” However, the good thought can only help those who help themselves. Someone’s change depends entirely on his or her inner heart. I have come to realize no matter how deeply and broadly you understand his investing theories, you can’t profit from the investment if you don’t control your mood efficiently and stay away from the stock market. Then how can I stay away from the stock market?

 

In order to stay away from the temptation of the stock market, I specially set up a solitary study. Whenever I sit quietly and read Warren Buffett’s articles, his rational voice is just like a calmative, slowing my manic heart down. This learning process has brought me huge enjoyment unexpectedly and made me understand that the real happiness in life is not coming from material enjoyment but from pursuing some interest or the process of doing what you enjoy most. I slowly feel that by studying the stock investment, Buffett’s thought and wisdom I become happiest in life. Under the urging of my interest, I have gradually formed a habit of staying away from the stock market.

 

One day in 2003, I was reading The Warren Buffett Way while copying his investing quotations, one of which goes like “The only value of stock forecasters is just to make fortune tellers look good.” At the same time, I was listening to a song called “Standing-

 

up Slaves Are Singing”. All of sudden, I felt extremely excited and couldn’t hold back my inner excitement and sadness. I sent a text message to many friends. I also shared about this moment in the 10-episode program Approaching Master Warren Buffett.

 

“Life is so beautiful. This morning while I copied Warren Buffett’s wise quotations, I was listening to a song I heard 20 years ago. I thank the composer, the singer. I thank Warren Buffett. I thank those helped me. I have spent a very beautiful morning. There are so many beautiful things in life. It will be regretful if we don’t enjoy them.”

 

A few books, a few plants, two loudspeakers, a quiet environment brought me such huge spiritual enjoyment. It is just incredible. While I am staying away from the stock market and studying Buffett’s thought, the book The Warren Buffett Way has always been beside me. Warren Buffett is my hero. It is he who has rescued me from the speculation of the stock market and made me to lead a normal life.

 

People may ask how I am able to stay away from the stock market without checking up the real-time stock updates. My experience is to follow the nature of habits. Warren Buffett once said: “Each morning when I get up, I always start to wear a certain pair of shoes and shave a certain side of my face first.” It is the habit to make me accumulate great wealth. Because I am not used to checking real-time stock updates, seeing them actually makes me uncomfortable.
The Warren Buffett Way is such a good book for us to study value investing theories of Warren Buffett’s. As long as we quiet ourselves down to read it repeatedly, the result will be beyond our imaginations. I sincerely wish Warren Buffett’s thought and wisdom can benefit more and more investors. I also sincerely wish more and more investing friends would take the path of value investment and become long-time winners in the stock market.
