I
have been thinking about how to start my blog
about English learning and IELTS. I have learned most
of my English through talking to people and I have
learned a lot because of work
needs.
However, I guess I will start with something that’s more
enjoyable. So here it is,
I will just start with talking about what I am interested in:
movies (TV shows) and music.
Movies first because I haven’t had a clue what to
talk about
with music.
The
first movie I saw after we moved to Hanoi was called The
Departed. It’s a story
about an intellectual
battle between an undercover policeman and a rat
who works in the police station in a sergeant's position, highly
trusted and respected. It’s a bit of a
typical Hollywood movie. However, the
way it ended actually surprised me, rather than just pleased me… So
I would recommend it if anyone is interested. I’m not gonna talk
about the details here because I know some people
don’t want to know the story before they watch
it.
One
of my favourite British Comedies is a TV show called Black
Adder. It has 6 seasons and
it is quite time consuming to watch. Once a guy
said to me that if Black Adder was one of my
favourite then I must have
some taste – still can’t work out if this is a good comment or a
bad one but I will take it as a compliment. I know lots of
people appreciate Mr. Bean more as it’s more direct and easier to
understand but the reason why I like British comedies is because of
their subtle, black and bloody harsh
humor.
I
also recommend: Peep show, Flight of the Concords (the music is
THE SHIT).
We
also finally finished Weeds, an American TV show about a single mom
trying to sort out all the problems in her life by making freaking
weird decisions which consequently caused more problems. It has
a really good plot, especially
the first couple of seasons but it’s become a bit
alien-ish towards the last couple of seasons, which is exactly what
happens to most series, for
example Lost. It did not
surprise me at all. Still a good TV show
though.
Lie
To Me is worth watching when you have a massive amount of time to
kill and just wanna turn off your brain.
Okay, that’s for now.
Enjoy.
