Australia has taken a significant number of
immigrants throughout her recent history. In this essay, how
homesickness, mental and physical health problems, financial
pressure and insufficient education impact migrations will be
examined. In addition, particular problems of voluntary and
involuntary migrations will be discussed. In the follow, I try to
explore the possible actions for government and the society that
can help migrations.
It is a common sense that migrations are facing many problems
after they arrive to Australia. The first challenge to migrations
would be homesickness. Homesickness can be caused by culture shock.
New migrations not easy get used to Australian culture. Therefore,
culture difficult makes migrations cherish the memory of their
traditional culture. For example, Chinese in Australia are more
regard the spring festive than China mainland. Also, different
foods aggravate the homesickness around migrations. Many migrations
are hard to accept western food in a short time. For instants, many
Vietnamese would rather 20 minutes drive to Vietnamese market
instead of 5 minutes walk to Safeway. Basically, involuntary
migrations usually move to a new place forced by external factors.
Those factors can be defined as push factors. For example, short of
food supply, natural disaster, politic persecution, wars and so on.
On the opposite, Voluntary migrations move to one place upon their
desirable. Desirable can be categorized into pull factors. For
instants, better climate and environment, better life style and
personal income, higher education, etc. Therefore, migrations are
normally suffered from loneliness and miss their migrants and
friends.
Except of homesickness, migrations also face mental and
physical health problems. High pressure has created by culture
shock, different life style, unsatisfied food, etc.
Beside of mental and health problems, migrations also face high
financial pressure unfortunately. Bas economy status usually leads
migrations to smoking, alcohol and drug abuse. Voluntary migration
need to set up new life in Australia. They have to pay for new
house, cars, health insurance and so on. As mentioned before, some
of voluntary migrations are not happy with their current job. The
current income can not satisfy they needs. At the same time,
migrations who have business also meet problems. For example, lose
money in international remit because of currency exchange rate.
Even worse, some foreign investors lose all their capital because
businesses fail. Meanwhile, involuntary migrations are suffered
from financial pressure in different ways. Many of them are engaged
in low income jobs due to lack of skill or education. In some
particular situation, they have to send money to their family in
home country.
Another important issue in front of migrations would be
insufficient education. Both voluntary and involuntary migrations
face diversity challenges. Generally, migrations have difficult in
language speaking if their native language is not English. Further,
some migrations have certificates, degrees in their home country.
Unfortunately, some oversea degrees are not accepted in Australia.
In that case, they have to get another degree in Australia. It
wastes time, money and energy. As mentioned above, some voluntary
migrations can not get proper job fit for what they learn.
Therefore, they have to restudy particular degree in order to get a
job in Australia. On the contrary, many involuntary migrations need
more education are under financial pressure, they do want spend
time and money on degrees. They want make money quickly. In some
cases, involuntary migrations do not need to study again because
they come to Australia for marriage.
Migrations will be accustomed to Australia life after a certain period; however, government and society should help them to overcome difficult circumstance.
In realistic, Australian has large land need to develop; however, the population is quite small. Therefore, Australia needs more talent people in future. Also, government should consider involuntary migrations as good opportunities. Even they need government financial support at the beginning stage, but their can create more value in future. More than that, the next generation can be talents after undertake quality education. Future, government can change the immigration policy. For example, re-estimate the skill immigration standards. Decrease the time to receive PR in order to attract more skill migrations. In this way, more useful migrations can come to Australia. At last, government can set more courses to help migration, such as Australian culture, English, and skill training. The local society can also help migrations in many ways. For example, local people should change their perception of migration. Locals who lose job should not blame to migration. Locals can make friend with migrations to help them overcome culture shock. Also, local people can learn different culture from migration. At the same time, it is good opportunities for Australians teach local culture to migrations. It is one way to disseminate Australian culture to the world.
Sum up, migrations are facing problems like homesickness,
impacts on mental and health, high financial stress and lack of
education. Government has responsibility to help they surmount over
challenges like provide useful courses and financial help. Future
more, Government should consider migrations as long term investment
to improve Australian economy and society. Therefore, positive
immigration policies are necessary and significant.
