第一章 布兰

 1.暗示：Hint  n.&vt.&vi

原句：The morning had dawned clear and cold,with crispness that hinted at th end of summer.

这里的crispness有”“清冷”之意，还有“易碎”的意思，就个人而言，让我想到了秋风从枝端带走变脆的树叶，都有暗示夏天结束，凌冬将至的感觉。

日常用：Come on! Give me a hint!

 

2.杀头：Behead

 

3.认作、认为：Deem  vt.&vi

 原句：This was the first time he had been ~ed old enough to go with his lord father and his brothers to see the king's justice done.

 

4.平房：Holdfast  n.

在小说了出现多次。

其他意思：固定其他物体的东西；握紧

 

5.吓得毛骨悚然、起鸡皮疙瘩：prickle  n.&vt.&vi刺，扎 

 原句：It made Bran's skin ~ to think of it.

 

补一个“鸡皮疙瘩”：Goose-bumps(bump有跳起来的意思）；Gooseflesh

Goose意指“鹅、家禽”。作动词有“大声骂”的意思。

北欧有个电子乐队就叫Goose,今年来上海的草莓音乐节表演过。

 

6.结伴、狼狈为奸、 配偶：Consort with...

They ~ed with giants and gouls.说的是，野人与巨人族和食尸鬼狼狈为奸。

 

关于“配偶”就会纯洁地想到“交配”，“交配“这个意思的同义词：Mating, Fornication，Coitus,Fvck

 

关于 Fvck这个词的由来，最早是：Fornication Under Consent of the King。过去男女交合繁殖是要在国王的允许下进行的。

 

7.茹毛饮血：Drink blood from polished horns.

这里也是形容野人的。

Polish: vt.擦亮（刀刃、器皿等等）这个在冰火里经常在形容被擦亮的刀时出现。

        当P大写，则为“波兰的”的意思。Poland——Polish

 

Horn: a.动物的犄角

      b.喇叭

      “按喇叭”有一个非常押韵和地道的表示：Honk the ~

      补一个刹车：Slam the brake或者直接用Brake作动词

      c.形容词：Horny表示在性方面的饥渴。

 

8.枯瘦的：Scrawny adj.

同义词：Skinny, lean(有猥琐之意）, a bag of bones

        表示苗条的、带有夸赞性质的：slim

    Slender:记得形容百花骑士就是用的这个：Slender as a weed.

 

这里的Scawny形容那个被杀头的人

 

9.冻疮：Frostbite  n.

Vt.使冻伤。

记忆：Frost——bite.

    霜冻，咬掉。

He had lost both ears and a finger to ~.说明长城很冷啊。

 10.衣衫褴褛：Ragged   a.

同样的表达：In rags;Shabby

 

而现在很多年轻人喜欢穿的破破烂烂的“流浪儿扮相”：waif-like 

在裘德洛的传记中有一句形容他女友的：Sienna Miller,then 23,was a elfin,waif-like expensively-highlighnted blone.

 

11.小马：Pony

这个在一个普及的精品帖子里有，不献丑了。

同义词：Horse, Mount, Stud

 

12.微风：Faint wind

A ~ blew through the holdfast gate.

同义词：Breeze

 

13.下面是一段对奈德的外形描写：

Bran's father sat solemnly on his horse, long brown hair stirring in the wind. His closed trimmed beard was short with white, making hom older than his thirty-five years.

 

A. Solemn: 肃穆的 a.

B. Trim 修建 vt.&vi.&n

C. 不同形状的胡子：

  Beard: 络腮胡子

  Goatee: 山羊胡子。（前面的Goat就很清楚了）

  Moustache：小胡子

  Whiskers:腮边的胡须

 

这里用“Closely”来修饰Trim，说明胡子被修剪得比较短。

He had a grim cast to his grey eyes this day.

A. Grim: 冷酷的，凌厉的

B. Cast 这里作名词。证据可以翻译为“他的灰色瞳孔投射出凌厉的光芒。”

 Cast做动词更多：Even a small man can cast big shadows over history.小人物也能办大事。

 

He had taken off father's face, Bran thought, and donned the face of Lord Stark of winterfall.

 

他一改平时慈父形象。当然更形象的翻译是“摘下父亲的面具”。

 

这里有个称呼：Lord Stark of winterfall. 临冬城主史塔克公爵. 这个很简单啦。

西方的一些称呼摆放的位子跟我们是有区别的，这里说比较简单的一些。

 

我们经常说“农民张三”、“律师李四” 英语中把职业放后面：

铁匠皮普：Pip  the blacksmith.

开膛手杰克：Jack  the ripper

 

冰火中出现的老调重弹的：

Ser +姓氏 形容骑士的：....爵士

Lord: 城主（有封地的）  

“My lord"

一般没有什么文化教养的人读作”M'lord"

Lady:+姓氏: .....夫人

Your grace:殿下（对王室成员的称呼）

 

我的未婚夫（妻）：My betrothed (小乔在别人面前摆风度就那么叫珊莎）

我的爱人：My beloved

 

14.Mount:翻身上马 vt.

 Dismount: 下马

 

15.领先：Hold an edge (over sth)

 原句：Nothing held an edge like Valyrian steel.

      上没有任河东西比瓦雷利亚钢更锐利。

 

16.拉紧缰绳：其实这里的表述很简单：

Keep the pony well in hand..

 

直白的翻译法：Tighten/Pull the reins.

 

17.原句描写奈德砍下守夜人的头：His father took off the man's head with a single sure stroke.

这里就翻译最后半句：利落的一挥。用的是strike。后来耶歌瑞特让穷根同学斩头也是用这个词。

 

18.斩首后的描写：

Blood sprayed out across the snow, as red as summerwine. One of the horses  reared and had to be restrained to keep from bolting. Bran could not take his eyes off the blood. The snows around the stump drank it eagerly, reddening as he watched.

鲜血溅洒在雪地上，殷红一如夏日的葡萄美酿。队伍中一匹马嘶声跃起，差点就要发狂乱跑。布兰目不转睛地直视血迹，树干旁的白雪饥渴地啜饮鲜血，在他的注视下迅速染成红色。

 

鲜血撒地：sprayed out across the snow

并将鲜血比作为夏日的葡萄美酿（summerwine)。冰火里一般把美好的事物都比做夏天，而凌厉的都比作为冬天。

染红：将red作动词redden
