The grey sea and the long black land;

And the yellow half-moon large and low;

And the startled little waves that leap

In fiery ringlets from their sleep,

As I gain the cove with pushing prow,

And quench its speed i' the slushy sand.

II

Then a mile of warm sea-scented beach;

Three fields to cross till a farm appears;

A tap at the pane, the quick sharp scratch

And blue spurt of a lighted match,

And a voice less loud, thro' its joys and fears,

Than the two hearts beating each to each!

午夜奇遇

I

灰白色的大海和长长的黑色的陆岸；

橘黄色的新月硕大而又低挂；

受惊的细小波浪从他们的假寐里

跳跃着波光粼粼，

此时，我驾驶小舟驶进港湾，

熄火停泊，我走进泥泞的沙滩。

 

II

这时，大海的气息温暖一英里外的海滩;

三英里外的农场仍然出现温暖的气息;

轻敲玻璃窗，迅捷尖厉地开窗声

燃烧的蜡烛摇曳着蓝色光芒，

接着传来一个低低问候，喜悦而又胆怯

两颗心彼此跳动在一起！

HEAT

WIND, rend open the heat,

cut apart the heat,

rend it to tatters.

Fruit cannot drop through this thick air

--fruit cannot fall into heat

that presses up and blunts the points of pears

and rounds the grapes.

Cut the heat--plough through it,

turning it on either side of your path.
