几个月前在Podcast里听到居住渥太华附近的阿姜查的弟子Ajahn Viradhammo讲佛。他谈到了美国农民诗人和作家Wendell Berry，温德尔。拜瑞。八十岁的Berry是美国肯塔基出生的哲学家，小说家，诗人，文学教授，同时多年一直在自己的125英亩农场里种地。几十年来他探讨人和自然之间的关系，及经济发展给人类带来的影响，是美国有名的先知和社会活动家。

We have lived by the assumption that what was good for us would be good for the world. We have been wrong. We must change our lives, so that it will be possible to live by the contrary assumption that what is good for the world will be good for us. . . We must recover the sense of the majesty of the creation and the ability to be worshipful in its presence. For it is only on the condition of humility and reverence before the world that our species will be able to remain in it.
我们之前的生活建立在这么个假设上，那就是对我们好的事情就是对自然好。这是错误的。我们必须改变生活方式，把我们的论念建立在对自然好的就是对我们自己好。我们必须重新认识万物的庄严，敬拜它们。因为只有当我们保持谦逊和尊重自然，人类才能继续存活下去。

今天想学习的是他蕴含佛机的诗。北京寒气逼人，藉机宅在家里练习一下翻译。先来看看这首​。

Geese appear high over us，
pass, and the sky closes. Abandon,
as in love or sleep, holds
them to their way, clear
in the ancient faith: what we need

自己先试了一把：

大雁在高空翱翔，
飞过我们的时候，天空瞬间闭上。任性，
象在爱情和睡梦中，使他们坚持自己的方向，明确地
坚守一个古老的信念：我们需要的
就在这里。我们祈祷，不是为了得到新的大地和天堂，而是
平静的心怀和清澈的目光。我们需要的就在这里。

正当自己沾沾自喜的时候，无意间网上查到这首诗竟然已被一位号称武夷山先生的高手翻过：
我们所需要的就是这里

雁群在高天出现，
它们凌空掠过，蔽日遮天。
爱情和睡梦中的率性使大雁们团结着前行，
它们古老的信念清晰无比：我们所需要的就是这里。
我们祈祷，不企求一片新天地，但求心灵和清澈目光的静谧。
我们所需要的就是这里。

这且不说，又有一位​叫王铮的科大教授将它改成了诗经风格：
雁​鸣嗷嗷，长庚耀耀。将翱将翔，惟喜同伴。雁鸣雝雝，晸日旦旦。无疆无舍，惟喜隰泮。

无语了。​

自己又试了一把Berry的另外一首诗：

To go in the dark with a light is to know the light.
To know the dark, go dark. Go without sight,
and find that the dark, too, blooms and sings,
and is traveled by dark feet and dark wings.

当你点灯进入黑暗，看到的其实是光亮；
如你想知道黑暗，应摸黑而入，摒弃目光，
黑暗中也有花开，有鸟唱，有创造，也有希望。
