1.3 广义金融工程

金融工程的学校主要分为两类:

一类是工程类，比如Columbia University 的IEOR(Industrial Engineering and Operation Research)下有Financial Engineering，而Cornell University的Financial Engineering 在 ORIE(Operation Research and Information Engineering)下。

另一类是数学类，比如说同样Columbia University的Mathematics Finance在 Mathematics下面，NewYork University 的 Mathematics Finance 也是在Mathematics下面。

当然也会有一些特例，比如说Carnegie Mellon University(CMU)的Computational Finance 开在商学院下，但是属于第一类工程类。而像Boston University 下的Mathematics Finance又是在商学院下，当从学科设置及分类上来看是属于第二类数学类的。

在很多网站(包括美国的网站)，会把这两类金融工程分为一类，这样有很多时候会让学生产生误解，学生会错误地认为这两类金融工程在招生时的标准是完全相似的。

虽然他们的要求大部分都是类似的，但是会有具体不同的偏向性。比如说，我们可以看到CMU的Computational Finance和Columbia University 的Mathematics Finance 都对Calculus和 C ++ Programming 有要求。但是Columbia University的要求会更加多一些，比如说在数学方面要求有：Elementary Differential Equations。而从这样的细节可以看出，他们所学的东西更加偏数学一些。而CMU那边更多的Programming。总体上类似于Financial Time Series Analysis， Stochastic Calculus for Finance 这样的课程基本上都会开设。虽然差异并不大，但是从具体的细节上的差异性最终还是造成了对于申请背景要求会略有不同。一方面数学的要求会更多，另一类对Programming的能力要求更多一点。

*Financial Engineering 既然有Engineering的字眼，实际上我们就要明确的了解Engineering的概念。往大里说，就是解决方案。比如说， NYU Poly(Polytechnic University)的Financial Engineering虽然不是最好的，但是也极具特色。比如他们学校做出了ATM自动提款机，纳斯达克自动报价系统等。由此我们可以看出，工程是什么概念，不仅仅是数学建模，不仅仅是编程，是系统解决方案，其中涵盖了硬件，软件，以及人员培训。

从学校的要求来看，实际上这两种金融工程的项目，都非常适合数学背景强，有很强编程能力的人。

比如说在Stanford University的Financial Mathematics 里的学生，基本上为Computer Science 或 Mathematics 专业毕业的学生。比如说在Stanford这个项目中有个北大的学生虽然专业是Finance，但是他的双学位拿的是Math and Applied Math。我们说了这么多，其实要表达的很简单，广义金融工程类的申请对申请者的数学及计算机背景要求非常高。除此之外，有相关的工作经验对你的申请都有很多的帮助。当然，除了你在课上所学的知识外，你在学校的时候做过什么样的项目，尤其是能反映你的数理能力和编程能力的项目，也会在你申请的时候起到很重要的作用。比如，你去参加一个数学建模的项目，你去参加一个调研活动(使用SPSS，Matlab或SAS等工具分析数据的项目)或参加一个使用C++ 的项目。

对于申请者的背景，实际上无论什么学科都是两点，

第一，学过的课程;

第二，研究或专业背景。

但是硬性的标准化考试，主要是要求GRE成绩。申请如果主要考虑金融工程类的申请，那么要计划好你的时间。虽然有一些学校比如Boston University 的 Mathematical Finance 开设在商学院下，但是是接受GRE成绩的。

判断广义金融工程学校的好坏有很多标准。其中以Advanced Trading 和 Quant Network 这两家更为权威和公正一些。Advanced Trading 并没有做出具体的排名，但是他们有列出最受认可的10所学校，分别为:

Columbia University

Cornell University

New York University

Princeton University

Rutgers University

Stanford University

University of California at Berkeley

University of Chicago

University of Michigan

Quant Network则做出了相应的排名：
