The 24 Hour Drawing Project is an event in which artists start and finish a work of art in a continuous 24-hour period.  It is a combination of intensive studio practice, public performance, endurance test, and spectator sport.  Each artist works on a piece of their own which relates to ideas of time, duration, activity, repetition, or labour. Visitors can view the project and speak with the artists while they work. This will be the 7th performance of the 24 Hour Drawing Project and the first to include 13 artists and 3 venues.

HANNAH BERTRAM

 

Drawing = Marks

Drawing = Absence

4 wall drawing/performances will be constructed and deconstructed in the gallery space.

 

HANNAH BERTRAM completed a BFA in 2003 and a MFA in 2005 at RMIT. She has exhibited throughout Australia and since 2008 has been exhibiting her ephemeral installations internationally. She is represented by Dianne Tanzer Gallery and Projects, Melbourne, and 10 Chancery Lane Gallery, Hong Kong.

 

 

LOUISE GRANT

 

'Sentimental Sentimentality' is based on tourism, souvenirs and the decay of memory. Armed with a collection of antipodean romanticised images of Europe, paper, a laminator, scissors and a glue stick she will engage in the recreational pursuit of reconstructing established perceptions of these places.

 

LOUISE GRANT is a Melbourne based artist who creates temporal garden spaces, collages and paintings investigating colonial perceptions of natural landscapes. Louise Grant has exhibited throughout Australia and was the recipient of the City of Melbourne Young Artist Grant for 2007. Louise has participated in four previous 24 Hour Drawing projects.

 

 

 

KENDALL NORDIN

 

Using the 24 hours as a time to create the seeds of my own mythology, I will be doing 24 basic human gestures for at least 20 minutes of each hour.  During that time I will not be interacting with anyone.  Immediately after each action, I will attempt to create a visual description or record of the experience of the prolonged gesture by drawing onto one large scroll of paper.  Sometimes the marks will correspond to the actions embedded in the gesture, sometimes they will come from the challenge of transferring a physical understanding into a picture.

 

KENDALL NORDIN draws, cuts, stains, tears, marks, burns, tapes, glues, inks, plays, writes, dances, sings, produces, serves, and teaches.  She hails from Washington DC and received an MFA from RMIT in 2005.
