2. events and activities：这一短语中，events是指当地举办的各种活动，譬如后面提到的戏剧

演出、举办音乐会等，activities是指自己可以从事的各项活动，譬如划水、钓鱼、游泳

等等。a host of fun events and activities译为“活动丰富多彩”，原文的修饰结构译成了汉

语的主谓结构。整个句子成了“在这儿，暑假活动丰富多彩，全家都能享受到无穷的乐趣”。汉语句子的结构完全变了，但意思不变。

3. 这个长句，如果按照原文的句子结构来翻译，也许会得到下面这样的句子：“这儿，在新罕布什尔州，你很可能在茂密的高高的长青树林中或阔叶树林里，或在潺潺的小溪旁， 或在风景如画的湖边，找到一个安静的地方。”这样翻译，尽管正确，但不符合汉语导游说明的文体，因而也难以吸引游客。现在的译文是：“新罕布什尔州森林茂密，绿树长青，泉水蜿蜒而流，湖边风景如画，到处都是幽然寂静的好去处。”这样翻译，符合汉语导游说明的文体和汉语描写景色的用语习惯。在本文的翻译中，许多句子几乎都作了这样的重写。

    这句译文的特点有三：1〉词序作了调整，使之更合逻辑。如把“坐上游艇在湖上巡游，也可以在湖里游泳，或在湖边钓鱼；或到山间乡下徒步旅行，骑自行车游览，或驾车观赏美丽的乡野景色"放在了一起，把“上夏日剧院欣赏戏剧，去博物馆里寻幽访古， 参观手工艺品展览会，参加丰富多彩的节日活动，……当然不要忘记购物”放在了一起；

2〉用了增词的手段，按汉语行文的习惯增加了动词。原文lake cruises, swimming, summer theater, hiking, biking, fishing, scenic country drives, museums antiquing, craft fairs and festivals and of course... shopping均为 offer的宾语，译文在不同的名词前用上了不同的动词；

3〉改变了句子的结构。原文中，family attractions 也是offer的宾语，但译文用

了两个独立的分句：“风景区有273个大大小小的湖泊，正是一家人的避暑胜地。”后面接下去是把英语中的每一个宾语，在汉语中加上动词后译成一个一个并列的分句，形成汉语典型的“流水句”句式。

6. With so many fun things to do in an atmosphere that promotes relaxation：按原文直译,译文可能是“由于在能促进休闲的气氛中有许多有趣的事情可做，……”，这样的译文显然生硬拗口。把上述意思用汉语改写，译文如下“在怡然自得的气氛中，能享受各种乐趣，……，”

7. 9. full-fledged： 美国英语。英国英语是fully-fledged，意为completely developed or established; of full status。如：David has become a full-fledged pilot. 戴维成了一位成熟的飞行员。这比译为“兴旺”，如：The area soon became a full-fledged recreation and vacation area. 瓦弗博罗成了兴旺的休闲和避署胜地。

15. to escape into nature：逃避（喧嚣纷繁的世界）来到大自然中。这儿译为：“犹如回到了大自然的怀抱”。
