be sure和be certain有什么差异？

问：在我们高三的英语教材中多次出现 be sure和be certain，这两个短语似乎都表示“肯定”，请问它们之间到底有什么差异？

   答：总的说来，sure指心理状态，强调确切无疑、很有把握，主语只能是人。而certain多指客观现实，强调有肯定的理由和证据使人相信或确信，主语多是表示事件的名词、代词或it。下面将两者的使用句型和差异作个对比。

be sure 的使用句型一般是：

（1）be sure + whether等连词+不定式，表示“有无把握”。比如：His father isn’t sure whether to stay here next week. (他父亲不能肯定，下星期是否呆在这儿。)             （2） be sure + of/about短语，表示“有把握”, 主语通常指人。比如: I am sure of his honest. (我确信他是诚实的。) / I shall certainly be present at the meeting, but I am not sure about my wife. (我自己肯定会出席这次会议，但我能保证我妻子也会出席。)         （3） be (feel) sure + that引导的从句，主语指人。比如：He is sure that he will succeed. （他肯定他成功。)                                                              （4） be sure + 不定式，表示“一定要，必定要”，主语不一定指人。比如：You are      sure to find what you are looking for in that book. (你一定能在那本书里找到你所要查阅的东西。)

  be certain的使用句型一般是：

     (1) be certain + that引导的从句，或不定式, 主语不一定是人。 比如：It’s almost certain that the government will lose the next election．（几乎可以肯定现政府会在下次选举中输掉。）/ it is certain to rain．（天肯定会下雨。）  

   （2）be certain + of 表示 “清楚地知道”/ be certain + about 表示“有把握”。比如：He felt quite certain of success. (他觉得一定会成功。) / I am not certain about that. (我对此事胸有成竹。)
