选C. what to do with it，还是选D. to do what with it ？

         问：  高考英语试题中，有这样一道单项填空题：

It is said in Australia there is more land than the government knows _____.  

A. it what to do with   B. what to do it with  

C. what to do with it   D. to do what with it 

答案是C，但我认为D也可以，“用来做什么”不是也通吗？另外，本句要译成汉语的话如何翻译？                          

答：答案是C；你选D，不是绝对错。但是，你不能将选项翻译成汉语，再来讨论可以或不可以。我们要遵循的是英语本身的规律。

（1）       本句的谓语动词know，作及物动词时，常后接关系副词或关系代词，

再接不定式。不能直接后接不定式。答案C中的what是关系代词，后面

接不定式短语to do with it。 再比如：She did not know who to ask advice from.（她不知道找谁征求意见。）/ I know how to make Spanish fried eggs. （我会做西班牙炒蛋。）

        （2）   后面接复合宾语时，宾语补足语通常是带to 或不带to的不定式。比如：I never know him (to) act without thinking.（我从未发现他不三思而后行。）但是，转换成被动结构时，不定式都带to 。比如：He has been known to say this before.（大家都知道他以前这么说过。）另外，  在主动或被动结构中都带to。比如：They knew themselves to be in a difficult position.（他们知道自己的处境很困难。）/ He was known to be a young man with lofty ideals.（人们都知道他是一个有伟大抱负的青年。）

（3）       下面这个翻译可以供你参考：“据说，在澳大利亚，土地多得来政府都不知道用它来干什么了。”注意：句中的it是形式主语，真正的主语是后面的从句，引导主语从句的连词that被省略掉了。
