名词error、mistake、fault、和blunder之间区别

error指思想或行动背离了正确轨道或没有受到正确指引,因而出现偏差,如:I
mistake通常指出于误解所犯的过失,一般不如error那么严重,如:He made a serious
mistake
fault 指道德或习惯上能影响完美性的缺点或弱点,这种缺点或弱点往往是本身固有的或一时的过失,如:It is not your fault; don’t think that I am blaming you.(这不是你的错,不要认为我是在责备你。)
blunder指因为疏忽或愚笨而犯的大错,侧重应该受到责备,如:Sending the bill to the wrong customer was a terrible blunder.(误送帐单给顾客是十分严重的错误。)
slip指较小的过错,强调出于无心或偶然,如:It is just a slip of the tongue.(这只是口误而已。)
faux
pas指违反习俗或礼节的举动或言语,
bull指前言不搭后语,因而引人发笑的话,如:He really committed a bull when he solemnly
introduced his new friend to the
latter’s
howler指愚蠢可笑的错误,尤其指在朗读或考试时犯的学究式的错误,如:This is a collection of choolboy howlers.(这是一本儿童错误汇编。)
boner是美国俚语,专指学生答案中的可笑的错误,如:He knew a few historical boners, such as
lapse指小错,强调可以原谅,也可指行为或道德上的不检点,如:His lapse
