Suzhou is one of the first batch of 24 ancient cities of
China. In the past over 2500 years, Suzhou created a lot of rich,
diverse and traditional culture.
What's more, Suzhou has a lot of intangible cultural heritages including 6 world intangible cultural heritages, namely Kunqu Opera, Silk Tapestry, Song Brocade, Dragon Boat Festival of Suzhou, Guqin, and Xiangshan Gang's traditional architectural construction techniques. It is obvious that 3 of them, Silk Tapestry, Song Brocade and Xiangshan Gang's traditional architectural construction techniques are handicraft and folk art.
In 2014, Suzhou was rewarded as the Capital City of Handicraft and Folk Art by UNESCO.
Su Fan is one of the most famous handicrafts of Suzhou because
of its delicate techniques and long
history.
It is very interesting to experience making the Su Fan, which has
the fixed process. The master educated us how to make it at first.
Even though we spent more than two hours painting the fans, we were
proud of making it in the end.
