Kaohsiung is the third most populated city in Taiwan with over
2.7 million inhabitants after New Taipei and Taichung second
biggest city in Taiwan, which is located at the south of the
island.
Kaohsiung is an industrial city and known for its harbor,
although more for commercial than tourism reasons. Hence it is also
known as the Harbor Capital of Taiwan. Its year-round fine weather
and the low cost of living make Kaohsiung the place to visit.
If you have free time in the morning, recommend to walk around
the Central Park with a small hedge maze in the
middle.

'Urban Spotlight' is a cafe with a stage to display local
talent.
The following displayed dazzling car is owned by famous
singer, Mr. Zhou Jielun.

The Cijin District is a slender island in Kaohsiung harbor, which serves a natural breakwater for the harbor. The district is filled with seafood restaurants selling freshly caught seafood which can be prepared right after you pick out.
Cijin is connected to the rest of Kaohsiung City by underwater
tunnels, but the transportation of choice is one of the many
ferries that traverse the harbor.

In the north of the island, there is a lighthouse standing at a hill with great views of the city, the harbor, and the ocean. The area is especially crowded on weekends with many visitors bringing their entire family along. The lighthouse was build by English technicians in Qing Dynasty(1883). In 1916, the Japanese remodeled it into Baroque style and painted it white, which has played a crucial role in guiding ships since 1918 during night sailing.
ChiHou Fort is a battery which was designed by English
engineer. It was after the Qing government took over Taiwan that
the fort became a military base. The fort stationed a naval
commander and one hundred soldiers.
The island is also projected to be an international tourism
spot in southern Taiwan by the city government. This effort can be
seen through series of campaigns made by the government to
introduce Chijin to the international level. The opposite to Cijin
is the Xizi Bay, where people usually see the most stunning sunset.
The former British consulate stands at the summit and people can
enjoy a beautiful view of Kaohsiung city.
TianHou temple was built about 300 years ago, and dedicated to
the Goddess of Sailors, Matzu. People believe that Matzu can
protect every fisherman who put out to sea. The temple is crafted
with charming yet authentic folk art, which is also regarded as the
oldest temple in Kaohsiung.
Pier 2 Art District is another popular attraction of
Kaohsiung. The art district spans over the area of a former train
station and shipping pier and is visited by locals for strolls in
the park or picnics on the meadow.
The old railway tracks have been transformed into an open
space with old locomotives, flowers and pieces of art.
The halls at Pier 2 show changing exhibitions, especially
creative cultural products.
All over the area, coffee and ice cream shops invite the
visitors to rest and enjoy drinks and
snacks.

The statues can be seen everywhere in the art district. Local
people said the statue couple was vivid representatives of the
workers at the railway station in old times.
The art district is from July 2017 connected to the city
center via light train.

Anping is the historical heart of Tainan. This is the site of the first foreign settlement in Taiwan, which is also the usual first stop for tourists in the city owing to the high concentration of attractions. In 1624, the Dutch occupied today's Anping and took ten years to build a fort named 'Fort Zeelandia'.
The root of an old banyan tree on the wall remains a witness
to the fort's long history. The observation tower gives a good view
of the surroundings.
The light train connects the main attractions along the harbor
of Kaohsiung including Pier 2 Art District, Xizi Bay, Exhibition
Center, shopping area, and so on.
Kaohsiung doesn't have too much big attractions but it
deserves visiting in one or two days no matter you travel by
yourself or by group.
