Chefchaouen is a city in northwest Morocco and is noted for
its buildings in shades of blue. The city was founded in 1471 as a
small fortress, which still exists to this day.

Chefchaouen's blue walls are a popular subject of interest. There are several theories as to why the walls were painted blue. One popular theory is that the blue keeps mosquitos away, another is that Jews introduced the blue when they took refuge from Hitler in the 1930s. The blue is said to symbolize the sky and heaven, and serve as a reminder to lead a spiritual life.

Chefchaouen is situated in the Rif Mountains. Moroccans often call it Chaouen and it becomes a popular tourist destination because of its proximity to Tangier and the Spanish enclave of Ceuta.

As promised, I met Ana, Daniel, Martin and Bram again. We travelled around and had our lunch together.

The beauty of Chefchaouen's mountainous surroundings is enhanced by the contrast of the brightly painted medina. It is this beauty and the relaxed atmosphere of the town that makes Chefchaouen very attractive to visitors.

We found a unique place to have our afternoon coffee on the
running river.

We climbed to the summit and overlooked the beauty of Chefchaouen.

We were back to ramble in old medina and tried to enjoy local tranquil life like relaxing cats in Alleys.

We drunk coffee or tea on one popular restaurant roof to wait for the sunset.

According to local people's recommendation, we found one small but nice restaurant to have our dinner. It was operated by one old couple, who was very friendly and cooked tasty dishes for us.

I liked this small town so much that I got up early to wander around medina the following morning.

I could see the moon hanging in the sky whilst standing in the lobby at night.

The countryside around it has a reputation for being a
prolific source of kief. The Chefchaouen region is one of the main
producers of cannabis in Morocco. Hashish is subsequently sold all
over town but is mostly the domain of native Chaouenis.
