Chinese calligraphy is one important kind of art in traditional
culture, but most young people can't write it well when they get
used to typing computers nowadays.

Each young student must learn calligraphy well
in old times and calligraphy was one essential
subject in final national exam.
Consequently, there were a
lot of national famous calligraphers such
as Wang Xizhi/王羲之, Yan
Zhenqing/颜真卿, Huaisu/怀素 and so on in the past.

Calligraphy is classified into
three levels. The first level is called skill/技,
which means everyone should
learn
from former famous calligraphers
at the beginning. Secondly,
people would create their
calligraphic styles, which we call
art/艺. Finally, people should
put their understanding
into calligraphy
with special meaning/道.

Mr. Zhang Zuoyuan/张祚远 Calligraphy Exhibition is
being hold from Sep. 24 to Oct. 16 in Ming Gallery of Art. If you
are interested in Chinese calligraphy, don't miss the
exhibition.

Mr. Zhang was born in Anhui province. He has been devoting
himself to calligraphy for several decades. He was delivering his
speech how to appreciate his calligraphy
exhibition yesterday afternoon.

Here are some works of calligraphic art by Mr. Zhang as
follows.

The exhibition also has been divided into three
parts including skill, art and meaning/技艺道.

The audience was listening to Mr. Zhang's
speech attentively. Some of them even came from other cities far
away from Suzhou.

The speech was so absorbing that there was no one seat left in
the gallery.

It is my great honor to take a photo with
Calligrapher Zhang.

Ming Gallery of Art often holds unique international or domestic
art galleries or exhibitions, which are warmly welcomed by artists
from all over the world and Suzhou local people.

In
addition, the gallery offers enticing coffee, simple western-style

on.
