I bought this book in India one year ago, but what a shame that I haven't finished reading it yet. I restart to read it and it is so impressive that I decide to complete it as soon as possible. 

He lived with his mother and step father in Indonesia for several years and moved to Hawaii with his grandparents, but went to New York when he wondered where he really belonged. Even though his parents was forced to divorce under the pressure of his father's father, the Old Man (his father) had a invisible postive effect on him. It was an important turning point for him to decide to become a community organizer in 1983.
