Snafellsnes is a peninsula on the west of Iceland. It is sometimes referred to as Iceland in miniature because of its rich scenery and many national sights. This partially guided Day Tour takes us to all the most interesting landmarks on the peninsula especially those circling the Snafellsjokull volcano, which was made famous in Jules Verne’s Journey to the center of the Earth. It can be seen from Reykjavik on a clear day but is best observed up close. Arnarstapi is a small fishing village on the outskirts of the National Park. Hellnar is a small settlement to the West of Arnarstapi. Close by the harbor is the stunning baqstofa cave.
Djupalonssandur is an amazing black sand beach situated on the west coast of snafellsne. There you can see how the ocean is slowly eating away at the lava sculpturing it while ever so slowly carrying it away. On the beach there are four lifting stones used to measure a man’s strength as you would have to lift and toss a 49kg stone to be able to work on the local fishing boats.
Snafellsjokull Volcano,80
