Incredible images have emerged showing a new gargantuan bridge engineers are building in rural China.

The impressive cable-stayed bridge, billed as the world’s first multiple-span cable-stayed bridge, is nearing completion.

Situated in central China’s Henan province, the mountain overpass spans some 4,920 feet across the valley with an average height of 885 feet, reported the People’s Daily Online.

The Chishi bridge, located in the town of Chishi, has cost 1.3 billion yuan (£157 million) and six years to build.

According to World Highways, six tower cranes were used to build two 918-feet-tall bridge pylons.

The cranes spent 30 months building the pylons.

Spectacular images show the bridge at its current stage before it opens to traffic on October 28.

The bridge makes up a section of the Xiamen-Chengdu Expressway, which links up two of China’s fastest growing second-tier cities.

The bridge has been a talking point on social media site Weibo.

One user commented: ‘Every year there’s news on the bridge open to traffic.’
