Misunderstanding

A Chicago family had as their guest a prim old maid from a small town in the East.

One evening she accompanied the family to a restaurant. There was a fine orchestra at work,and while the waiter was standing by the table the maiden lady adked him to find out the name of the selection being played at the moment.

The waiter promised willingly, but being unusually busy at the time,his other duties claimed him for a while, and when he returned to the lady she had forgotten all about her request. He bent toward her and softly whispered something in her ear. She recoiled with hooro. "How are you!" she cried, with relentless fury,"How dare you!"

The whole party looked on with astonishment, and it took the terrified waiter quite a few moments to explain that he had merely told her the name of the piece she had asked about:"What Can I Do to Make You Love Me?"

    侍者欣然答应,但是饭店这个时候是超乎寻常地忙,他被耽搁了一会儿,当他回到老处女旁边的时候,她已经忘记曾叫他去问的事了.他弯腰在她耳边轻声说了一些什么,她惊得倒吸一口气,"你怎么这样!"她叫道,阴沉着脸,"你怎么敢这样!"

    所有的人都惊奇地看着他们,这个可怜的侍者花了很长时间才解释清楚他只是来告诉她她叫他问的那首曲子的名字:"我要怎样做才能让你爱上我?"
