根据1925年的《斯瓦尔巴条约》，中国人可以免签进入。新奥尔松，北纬78.56，是地球最北端，有人居住的小镇，人口约100左右，大多是各国北极科考人员。中国北极黄河科考站也在此。

斯瓦尔巴群岛上的巴伦支堡，前苏联1935年买下的小镇。主要出产煤炭，现年产13万吨。在这个小镇就仿佛穿越到前苏联，列宁像，各种口号，宣传画十分有趣。
