                                            What Does It Mean to You to Be Chinese?

This is a very big and serious question, but i think like you said, when i study abroad some people will ask this qustion to me. Here are my reasons:
 
1. I feel very proud of i am a chinese. As we all know, China is one of the four major ancient civilization. So that mean, China has a very long history. I can't use my  short essay to intriduce China long history but i can give some examples. I think all around world foreign people know that Tang Dynasy was the most successful time in China. In the Tang Dynasty, cultural, political, economic, diplomatic were all got great success, it is one of the Golden Age of Chinese history and the country has the biggest power in the world at that time. The Tang cultural also influence over neighboring states such as those in Korea and Japan. The Tang poem was also wonderful at that time. Now, all chinese student learn Tang poem in school. In Han Dynasty, the Silk Road started. At that time people have more contacted with other countries' people. But in Qing Dynasty,because of Emperor's incompetence and Empress Dowager Cixi usurpation of power, to implement a policy of seclusion. So our cultural, political, economic and diplomatic were all stalled. All the harbors were closed, the Chinese had almost no contact with the outside world when other countries develped very fast. Later, the Eight-power Allied Forces came to China, Summer Palace has become a ruin now,We signed a number of unequal treaties, and later,Japan began to invade China, but the Communist Party and the Kuomintang against Japan were successful, and later, the Communist Party led the China, founding of New China in 1949.
But the Japanese government did not even write their textbooks history about aggression against China, and some of them claiming that they didn't kill chinese, and denying the Nanjing Massacre. And even more ridiculous is that some Japanese government officials said they did some help at that time.
 
2. These day, all around world people are all concentrate on the Climate Changes Meeting. All the National government representatives, business representative and student representative were all went to Copenhagen for Climate Conference. Every morning, i heared many news about climate changes and i know that the process is not smooth.As the "United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change," and the "Kyoto Protocol" of the parties, China has always committed to promoting the implementation of the Convention and Protocol, conscientiously fulfill relevant obligations.
 I find these information in Baidu Zhidao. "But which countries should reduce emissions? The reduction how much? For example, rapid economic growth China has recently overtaken the U.S. as the largest emitter of carbon dioxide. However, in history, the U.S. greenhouse gas emissions by up to far more than China. Moreover, China's per capita emissions is only about a quarter of the United States.The Chinese government argued that: From a moral perspective, China has the power to develop the economy continues to grow, increasing carbon emissions will be inevitable. And that carbon emissions from industrialized countries to "outsourcing" to the developing countries - China for the West to conduct a large number of buyers of carbon-intensive manufacturing. As a consumer countries should be generated in the process of manufacturing products is responsible for carbon emissions, rather than the country of export of these products."
In short, I think the earth is everyone's, is of all mankind, we should be reasonable and proper to carry out consultations.
 
3. I think all the Chinese people will remember that in 2008 years, what has happened. In the early 2008,the South ushered in the snow. In May 12, Wenchuan earthquake was broke out. In July, the Beijing Olympic Games was convene successfully. But i always remember that, when the torch passed outside, some bad Dalai Lama came out to created some troubles. Maybe some foreign countries' people didn't know China very well, so some of them like to see a joke and did what some bad Dalai Lama did. But  there are many Chinese students and Chinese people were stand up. They gathered together and began to protest, to introduced China to the foreign people.At that time I really felt the power of the people's solidarity.
 
4. China help many Aferica countries. Chinese help them build the railway and some other transportation equipment, and there are many volunteers to go there.
    I think my country more friendly than other country. We will not attack unless we are attacked.
5. I think all people love their own country.  Like we have a sense of mission.
