去年，我开始做前世故事个案的时候，遇到一些问题，请教大卫。他给我回信如下，解释了占星师工作的大脑工作原理，也以他特有的严谨风格讲到前世故事的作用、实践和注意事项。虽然说占星师左右脑同时工作的心理机制在西方的占星界似乎是个常识，但我好象没有在国内的占星材料上面看到过。我觉得理解这个原理对占星师都挺重要的。于是大概翻译了一下，贴在这里与朋友们分享。

Yes, every chart is alive and breathing.

    是的，每一张出生图都是活的，都会呼吸。（这里是肯定我去信时所说的话）

Here's how this works: The symbolic alphabet of the astrology stimulates both our left side of the brain - the logical side, and the right side of our brains - the intuitive side.  The logical side can analyze a chart, identify patterns and list associations.  The intuitive side can arrange these patterns and associations creatively.  Thus while you can explain 'how' patterns are identified and list their corresponding associations it is difficult if not impossible to explain how one arrives at creative explanations for these patterns and associations.  Such a phenomena is not that far removed from a writer that creates a story given a theme and some basic objectives. 

A writer of fiction is often hard pressed to explain how they created a story, though volumes might be written about the writing of famous authors!  Inspiration remains a fascinating but elusive process.  An astrologer differs from a writer in that the astrologer has a specific script that outlines the parameters pro and con of an individual's potential.  However, an astrologer is similar to a writer in that what they both create emerges from their own imagination and experience of life.

    运作的机理是这样的：占星学中的象征符号同时激活我们左半脑和右半脑。左半脑是掌控逻辑的，右半脑是掌管直觉的。逻辑的部分可以分析一张星图，识别模式，列出之间的联系。直觉的半脑可以有创造性地将这些模式和联系重组安排。于是，即使你可以解释模式是“如何”被识别出来的，可以列举出这其中的相关连性，却依然很难（如果不是不可能的话）解释占星师是如何针对模式和联系得出那些创造性的解读的。这种情形也和另外一种情况差不离：在给出主题和几项基本目标之后，一个作者是如何创作出故事的。即使那些著名作家的材料汗牛充栋，他们却常常很难解释自己是如何创作的。灵感的发现依然是令人着迷却捉摸不定的过程。占星师与作家不同，占星师已经有一份特定的剧本了，这份剧本中列出了一个人正面与负面潜能的维度。占星师与作家的相似在于，他们的创作依然是基于他们自己的想象力和经验。

When telling a past life story it is important to let the client know that the examples you're giving, or the specifics of a story you tell are "analogous to their past life experiences."  Astrology as a tool for self-knowledge does not in and of itself espouse reincarnation.  Reincarnation is a belief or a philosophy that can be applied to astrology, and the themes present in a chart represented as past life scenarios.  A client will resonate with a past life analogy because it is derived from an outline that already represents who they are.

    当讲述前世故事的时候，很重要的是告诉客户你给出的例子或者特定的故事，是“与他们的前世经验类似的”。占星本身并不支持转世轮回。转世轮回是一种可以应用到占星上的信仰或哲学，出生图中的主题可以代表过去世的剧情。一个客户会与过去世解读共鸣，是因为这是从一份已经代表他们是谁的说明（即出生图）中衍生出来的。

Keep all of this in mind when approaching past life stories with clients.  The fundamental key is: "What does the client need to know about 'possible' past life experiences that will help them in this life?"

    当向客户讲述前世故事的时候，将这些记在心里。关键在于：“这个客户需要知道哪些‘可能’的过去世经验，好对他们的今生有帮助呢？”

Trust the process, but keep the process responsible from the beginning by telling the client: "The past life scenarios I describe are 'examples' of the 'kind of past life experiences' you may have had."  Keep it simple.  Many clients will have remarkable reactions to past life stories that resonate with lasting beneficial repercussions in their lives, helping them to work through inner struggles at the core of their life experience.

    信任这个过程，但一开始的时候就要告诉客户：“这其中描述的过去世的场景只是你可能有的过去世经验的例子。”这样是对客户负责任。保持简洁。许多客户会对前世故事有非常强烈的反应，并且对他们今生有持续的有益影响，这能够帮助他们经历并解决那些人生旅程中关键的内在挣扎。
