Gatwick Security Incident
Regrettably, one of our crew members, Matthew Carney, is being held by the UK police on suspicion of involvement in a bomb hoax relating to an Emirates flight on Sunday March 22, 2009. He has been suspended from duty pending an inquiry. We realise that some of you may be friends with Matthew, and are understandably concerned. However, we are not able to provide more details because this is a police matter. If you are approached by media reporters looking for information about Matthew or about the incident, please ask them to call Corporate Communications (tel: 04-7082145). EK407 MEL-DXB Incident on Departure

On Friday 20th March, EK 407 from Melbourne to Dubai operated by an A340-500 had to return to Melbourne shortly after take-off when the ECAM indication alerted Captain that the possibility of the tail contacting the runway on departure. The aircraft climbed safely to an intermediate altitude and at the Commander's request was provided ATC vectors to the appropriate fuel jettison airspace so as to lower landing weight. Appropriate checklists were completed and landed back at MEL was without incident.

Passengers and crew were provided hotel accommodation. Emirates Airport Services team then rebooked passengers on the next available flights. The Australian Air Transportation Safety Board is investigating the incident under ICAO Annexe 13 provisions. Emirates has provided a high level team as a part of the investigation group consisting of representatives from Flight Safety and Flight Operations who arrived in MEL earlier today.
