钟敬文，生于1903年3月20日，广东海丰人。1922年毕业于陆安师范学校，1927年到中山大学任教，与顾颉刚等组织民俗学会，编辑《民间文艺》《民俗》周刊及民俗丛书1928年到浙江大学任教，编辑《民间月刊》、《民俗学集镌》等。1934年到日本早稻田大学研究院研究民间文艺和民俗1936年回国。抗日战争开始后从事救亡工作。自1949年5月起，执教于北京师范大学，从事民间文学、民俗学研究和教学工作。
Born on March
20, 1903, a native of Haifeng County of Guangdong, Zhong Jingwen
graduated in 1922 from Lu An Normal School and taught in Sun Yatsen
University in 1927. Together with Gu Jigang, he set up the Society
of Folk Lore, and edited “Folk Literature”,
“Folk Lore Weekly” and series of works on folk lore. In 1928
he taught in Chekiang University and edited “Folk Literature
Monthly” and “Collection of Works of Folk Lore”, etc. In
1934 he studied folk literature and folk lore in the Institute of
Waseda University. In 1936 he returned to the country and plunged
into salvation work since the start of the War of Resistance
Against Japanese Aggression. From 1949 onwards, he worked in
Beijing Teachers University and also engaged in the study of folk
literature and folk lore
