关于“自由意志”与“财务自由”的胡思乱想

    某日和一个多年未见的朋友在网上遇到，竟然聊起“自由”这个话题。我说当初为了实现出国的目标，现在竟然走上了研究之路（从小没有想过我会做一个科学家），而Jackie答曰殊途同归，向着自由而奋斗，为了自由意志的发展。的确，自由意志是我奋斗的终极目标，而财务的自由也是实现这个终极目标必须的一步，但是Jackie说财务自由和自由意志完全没关系。至于财务自由和自由意志是否有没有关系，互相都没有说服对方。

    维基百科上最基本的解释是“自由意志是相信人类能选择自己行为的信念或哲学”，“形而上的自由”是否存在有许多不同看法，问题在于人们是否有能力做真正不同的选择。而亚瑟·叔本华（Arthur Schopenhauer），写道，“大家都相信自己先天是完全自由的，甚至涵盖个人行动，而且认为在任何时间他都可以开始另一种生活方式...。但后天，从经验上，他会惊讶地发现自己并不自由，而是受制于必需品，而且不顾他的所有决心，他无法改变自己的行为，而这就形成从他生命开始到结束的生活，他必须扮演自己谴责的角色.”但是关于财物的自由没有任何的解释，于是还是不得其解而继续请教一个哲学朋友。

    Edward毕业于剑桥大学哲学系，现在在英国杜伦大学念博士，主攻中国和日本道家哲学。至于怎么认识这个哲学朋友已经记不太清楚了，似乎好几年前被老周的知识论折磨的时候在某个论坛上认识的，于是成为似熟非熟的朋友。在msn上讨论着道家以及中国的话题，经常被这个英国哲学家（或者潜在的哲学家）的莫名其妙的哲学问题折磨，他3年前发给我他的著作一直到现在没有翻完前十页，尽管如此，他每次上线都很有绅士的问题一声“How are you” 然后偶尔聊下中国的哲学问题，倒是还保持着这几年的友好。

     于是我向他请教关于这个“自由意志”与“财务自由”问题, “自由意志”是哲学里的基本概念,对Edward来说很容易解释,但是问一个哲学家关于“自由意志”与“财务自由”的关系却是很奇怪的, 是否财务自由有助于自由意志呢? 刚开始Edward认为财务的自由只会限制自由意志,因为对财务的考虑限制人们行为的范围以及产生胆怯,但是当我说如果有实现财务自由时,人们不再为最基本的需求而担忧,不受制于必需品(如叔本华所说)不是更有利于选择所追求的人生的自由么? 于是Edward接受我的辩论,赫赫…

    总结, 自由意志是相信人类能选择自己行为的信念或哲学,财务的自由有利于自由的意志,但是自由意志远远不止财务的自由.

Edward says: people can choose their own destiny, what people are like, it depends on what they choose. There are various different ways to describe it, but broadly it means how people act is not similar a product of circumstances or fate but people act as independent cause agent.

Zhen says: is any relationship between financial free and free will?

Edward says: ah that sounds really odd, especially for a philosopher, I don't understand really.

Zhen says: I argued with my friend that if you are financial free, it can be helpful to your free will, is that ok?

Edward says: ah, I suppose, you could argue the opposite, that finance makes people less free

Zhen says: but I think when you needn't worry about your basic requirement, such as food, shuttles, etc, you can be more free to purse you dream, choose the destiny or the life you like, but how can I argue the opposite?

Edward says: ah, I’d say maybe financial considerations will always limit people's scope for acting and make them feel always afraid

Zhen says: but here I mention financially free means you needn't to worry about the financial problem, so there is no need consider financial situation, then you can be more freely to chase you will? so if it financially free, it is better for your free will? but how can you argue the opposite?

Edward says: ah, I think that is correct, umm, I am not sure how to argue the opposite in that case.
