Applying for a Visa to See Your Child Graduate
Today I am going to discuss the process and timing for parents
who want to visit America to see their children graduate from an
American university.
The most important thing to remember about your visa is to apply
as early as possible.
The correct visa class you will need to apply for is a B1/B2
visa.
Many applicants get nervous about their interviews and wonder
“What is the best way to get a visa to the United
States?”
If this is the first time you have applied for a U.S. visa,
there are a few things that the consular officer might want to see
during your interview. These items include, but aren’t limited to:
clear, readable photocopies of your child’s Chinese passport and
your child’s U.S. visa for his/her current school; several recent
photos of you and your child together – maybe from his or her last
trip home; your child’s birth certificate; and documentation that
shows when your child will graduate.
By being prepared, providing the documentation and answers the
consular officer needs to adjudicate your case, and knowing your
travel plans well, you will help the consular officer make a
decision regarding your visa.
That’s it for today.
