Blog Introduction

Hello Weibo Friends!

I’m happy to announce that today we are re-launching our blog as a new source of information and news about visas in China.  Confused about how to apply for a visa?  Looking to visit the U.S. as an investor?  Worried about what documents to bring to your visa interview?  These are just a few of the questions we will be answering here with short, simple and (hopefully fun!) blog posts.  So before we get started talking about visas, let me introduce myself.

I’m Chuck Bennett, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs in China, but don’t worry about the long title: you all can just think of me as the “qianzheng laowang.”  I’ve been working in this business a long time – about 25 years to be exact.  Like Ambassador Locke, I am from the state of Washington, however, I’ve spent most of my career in Asia. This is my second tour in Beijing, and I consider China to be one of the world’s most exciting countries in which to live and work.   When I’m not busy traveling around China to visit our consulates and oversee all of our consular and visa offices, I enjoy visiting China’s many beautiful temples, museums and tourist sites  and learning about the country’s rich cultural heritage.   I also love technology and reading up on the newest gadgets, which is why I am encouraging all of our consulates to utilize new tools – such as social media – to communicate with our visa applicants.

Now let’s get to the reason you all are really here – to successfully apply for an American visa.  If you are planning to apply for a visa, you’re not alone!  Just over the past year, roughly 1.5 million other Chinese applied for visas throughout all our offices in China.  With demand for visas in China that high, you can bet the demand for information is even higher.  And that bring us back to why I’m writing this blog – to fill you in once a month on the topics which we believe our applicants care about most and, ultimately, to help you be successful when you apply for a U.S. visa.

This wouldn’t be social media, however, if we didn’t hear from you!  So please reply to our posts with your comments and questions.  I’ll pick one every time I write a new post and respond to it as best as I can.

That’s it for today.  Thanks for reading and see you next time for a post on how soon before you travel you should plan on applying for your visa.  “Qianzheng Laowang” signing off!
