正如大家所知,现在我们签证处正值夏季高峰期,你有没有兴趣听听我签证官员对大家的温馨提示呢?我想这些信息一定对你的申请有着积极的帮助。
在领事处工作是什么样子的?
最近一段时间,尤其是在夏季高峰期的这段时间里,我们要做5到7个小时的面谈工作。为此而忙碌着(我们每天要做2000个面谈!)同时,我们感谢签证申请人的耐心。审批合格的申请人赴美这是我们的使命。我们很高兴成为促进两国纽带的一部分。
当面谈的时候哪些事情申请人需要准备/哪些是不需要的?
申请人经常自认为他们所想到的问题就是我们会去问的问题,但是我们真的是想看到一个真实的申请人,而不是申请人准备好排练过的答案。 那他们应如何做呢?如果申请人是工作了, 他们应该表述他们的工作属性和证明他们对公司状况的了解。学生应该可以谈论他们关于学习研究方面的认知,包括过去的和展望未来的。有的时候申请人拿出他们的名片放在胸前, 这其实对他的申请没有什么帮助。如果我们问申请人他们是做什么工作的或者他们的公司是从事什么的, 他们的答案就是“我的从事管理的”或者 “我们公司是做进出口的”这些答案都不能清楚地回答他们当前工作的情况。申请人应该给出一个完整连贯的情况描述,应该把他们所说,所提供的的材料相关的联系到一起。例如,一个申请人说他去旅行过, 那么他应该有他的老护照和在旅行中所照的照片,这些材料和他所说的就构成更有力的说明。
我们非常不建议申请人修改他们的申请信息, 例如,改编他们的实际情况来迎合我们想听到的,但事实上我们想听到的是他们真实的情况。很多时候,签证官员听到了一些编造或隐藏的申请, 这种计谋往往不没说服力。当申请人试图隐藏让我们发现的时候,我们通常会拒绝他们的签证申请,他们提供的信息无法说服我们也无法准确地表现他们自己,这样我们可以全面综合的审批一个签证。
What is it like working in the consular section?
These days, especially with the summer rush, we might be
interviewing anywhere from five to seven hours a day. Things can
get hectic (we might interview as many as 2000 applicants a day!),
and we appreciate applicants’ patience. It’s our mission, after
all, to facilitate travel to the U.S. for all qualified applicants,
and we’re happy to be a part of the expanding ties between our two
countries!
What are some of the things
applicants need and don’t need to do when they come for their
interview?
Applicants often come in with ideas of what they think we’re
going to ask, but we really want to be able to see the real person,
not just some rehearsed answers. How can they do this? Folks who
are working should be able to talk about what they do
professionally and demonstrate knowledge of their own company and
work situation. Students should be able to discuss their studies,
both past and prospective. Sometimes people hold their cards close
to their chest, but that doesn’t really help. If we ask people what
they do for their work or what their company does, and they say,
“I’m in management” or “We do importing and exporting,” that
doesn’t give us any clearer idea of their situation. Applicants
should be able to present a coherent picture of their situation,
with what they say and what they present for documentation forming
a coherent picture. For example, if one says that one has traveled
and has old passports and pictures to support one’s account, it
presents a stronger case.
We strongly discourage people from altering their information, for example, changing their story around to fit what they think we want to hear, because what we want to hear is their real story. Many times, officers may hear embellishments or concealments, and such tactics create a story in which somehow things just don’t add up. When applicants prevent us from being able to see their complete situation, we often have to refuse them because they have not convincingly nor accurately represented themselves so that we can come to an informed visa decision.
