Comfort and ease were high on the fashion agenda in Paris as
menswear got stripped of its structure with easy lightweight
silhouettes and the emphasis on soft transitional dressing.
Structured tailoring was all but absent, as designers
opted for a more seasonless approach to dressing with soft
unstructured layering replacing the strictures of the SB suit.
Fabrics suit the new mood of comfort with weightless sheers,
summery cottons and drapey jersey, layered with casual
unstructured knits worked in the finest-yarn gauges.
Colour wasn't such a strong statement as the palette seen in
Milan, with soft greys, inky blues and the palest tinted
pastels becoming the season's new neutrals. Travel and
escapism looks set to be the key influence driving next
summer's menswear trends, as designers looked to the simplicity
of ethnic costume and the shores of North Africa for
inspiration.
