Surprisingly, given the current economic downturn and its
effect on the industry, the international designers presented a
united front with strong collections that sent out a strong
positive message for the season ahead.
A common thread ran through the key trends, as designers toyed
with the fashion archive of the 80s and 40s as their point
of reference. Elsewhere it was all about the classicism of
Grecian and Roman drapes combined with assertive leathers, the
cocooning power of luxurious jersey and knitted layers, or
the youthful mix of downtown grunge combined with the rugged
outdoors.
And basic colours such as black and grey may be leading
the way, but there are plenty of rich and colourful highlight
colours to tempt the jaded fashion palette.
Fabric-wise it's all about the feelgood factor of
touchy-feely fabrics including velvet, mohair and fur coupled
with staples of luxe wools, tweeds and leather. And a
confident print season, too, with monochromes sitting alongside
opulent engineered patterns, florals and spots.
