一、作及物动词用

1.       表示“观察”，后面接名词或代词。

We often observe the behavior of birds. 我们经常观察鸟类的行为。

I observed him closely as I worked together with him.在和他一起工作时，我仔细地观察了他。

2.       表示“遵守”，后面接名词。

Anyone who comes here must observe the rules. 来这儿的任何人都必须遵守规定。

We should observe the local custom.我们应当遵守当地习俗。

3.       表示“庆祝（节日等）”，后面接名词。

With a joyful heart we observed our National Day. 我们满怀喜悦的心情庆祝国庆节。

Do you observe Christmas Day in your country? 在你们国家你们庆祝圣诞节吗？

4.       表示“遵循”，后面接名词。

People still observe the old traditions here. 在这里，人们仍然遵循古老的传统。

They observed your directions. 他们遵循你的指示。

5.       表示“过（生日、节日等）”，后面接名词。

We always observe birthdays at home.我们总是在家里过生日。

People of many Asian countries observe the Mid- Autumn Festival. 许多亚洲国家的人民过中秋节。

6.       表示“注意到”、“看到”，后面接名词、代词、that-clause、what-clause和how-clause。

I observed her walk away with a smile. 我看到她微笑着走开了。

We observed many instances of this.我们看到很多这方面的事例。

They observed that it was getting dark. 他们注意到天慢慢地黑下来了。

The farmer observed what was going on between them. 那个农民注意到他们之间所发生的事。

I observed how it was done.我看到了做这件事的方法。

7.       表示“庆祝（节日等）”、“注意到”、“看到”，可用于被动结构。

Thanks-giving Day is observed as a general holiday by the American people.美国人普遍将感恩节作为节日来庆祝。

The man was observed to enter the company.有人注意到那个人进了那家公司。

8.       表示“注意到”、“看到”，后面接复合宾语，其中用动词不定式和V-ing形式作宾语补足语，但动词不定式作宾语补足语时，要省略动词不定式符号to，强调动作发生的全过程V-ing形式作宾语补足时，强调动作正在进行。

Mr. Wang observed a man trying to force the lock. 王先生看到有个人正在设法撬锁。

I observed the man open the window。我看到那个人打开窗户。

9.       表示“说”、“评论”，后面接that-clause。

He observed that it was a lovely day. 他说天气真好。

She observed that the house seemed to be too small.她评说这房子看起来太小。

10.   表示“监视”、“观测”，后面接名词或代词。

The policeman is observing a suspected person now.现在那个警察正在监视一个可疑的人。

The scientist observed a curious phenomenon. 那个科学家观测了一种奇妙的现象。

二、作及物动词用

1.       表示“观察”，后面接副词。

You’d better observe carefully. 你最好仔细观察。

He observed keenly but said little.他注意观察，但很少说话。

2.       表示“评论”、“说”，后面与介词on搭配使用。

Miss Wang refused to observe on the situation. 王老师拒绝就形势发表评论。

He observed on modern art.他谈了对现代艺术的看法。
