1. (be) all `ears (infml 口) listening attentively 倾听:

Tell me your news; I'm all ears. 把你的新鲜事告诉我, 我洗耳恭听.

2. box sb's ears hit sb on the ear with the open hand or fist (以掌或拳)打某人耳光:

He boxed the boy's ears for being cheeky.他打了这男孩儿耳光以教训其不懂羞耻.

3. sth comes to/reaches sb's `ears sb finds out about sth, eg news or gossip 某事物(如消息或闲话)传到某人耳朵里:

25. smile, etc from ear to `ear smile, etc broadly, showing that one is very pleased or happy 眉开眼笑.

26. turn a deaf `ear (to sb/sth) refuse to listen (to sb/sth) 不肯听取(某人的话[某事物]); 对...充耳不闻:

She turned a deaf ear to our warnings and got lost.她对我们的警告充耳不闻, 结果迷失了方向.

27. (be) up to one's ears/eyes in sth very busy with or overwhelmed by sth 忙得不可开交; 深陷於某事物中:

I'm up to my ears in work at the moment. 我现在工作忙极了.

28. walls have ears (saying 谚) beware of eavesdroppers 隔墙有耳:

Be careful what you say; even the walls have ears! 说话要小心, 隔墙有耳啊!

29. with a `flea in one's ear rebuked, reprimanded or humiliated after an attempt at sth (做某事以後)受到责难﹑ 批评或羞辱:

He burst into our meeting and got sent away with a flea in his ear. 我们正在开会他闯了进来, 大家把他轰走了.

30. (still) ,wet behind the `ears (infml derog 口, 贬) immature or inexperienced; naive 无经验的; 幼稚的; 乳臭未乾的.

31. with half an `ear not very attentively 不很注意地:

I was only listening to the radio with half an ear, while preparing some food. 我正在做吃的, 没太留心听收音机.
