Where 引导的三大从句

一、           where 引导的定语从句

修饰表示地点的名词，如place, room, house ,street, area等，并在定语从句中作地点状语。

地点:  where = 介词（ at/in/on ）+ which

Stephen Hawking believes that the earth is unlikely to be the only planet where life has

developed gradually.(where=on which)

 Note: 高考试题对于where的考察趋于复杂化，从明显的表地点的先行词转化为地点的模糊化，如用situation, stage,point,case，job及activity等作先行词。如：

He’s got himself into a dangerous situation ______ he is likely to lose control over the plane.

Those successful deaf dancers think dancing is an activity ___ sight matters more than hearing.

二、where引导名词性从句（主语从句、宾语从句、 表语从句、同位语从句）

 where在从句中充当地点状语

1.Where we should go camping hasn’t been decided.

2.Can you tell me where you met Mr. Brown this morning?

3.I had no idea where he bought the book.

4.That’s where the war broke out.

5.That’s where  we differ. 这就是我们的分歧所在。

6.That’s where you’re wrong. 你的错就在这儿。

Note: where 的含义

            在主、宾、同位语从句中的意思是“在哪里、在什么地方”

           而在表语从句中的意思接近 the place where(多译为……的地方）

           但也有灵活的译法如例5、6、7、8

三、where 引导地点状语从句

意思接近in /at the place where可译为“在……的地方

 1.把他带到安静的地方去。Take him where it’s quiet

2. Keep him where you can see him.

让他呆在你能看得见的地方

3.把药放在孩子们拿不到的地方。

  Put the medicine where children can’t get at/reach it.

4. You can’t camp where you like these days.
