转            译

      由于英汉两种语言结构与表达方式的不同，有些句子汉译时不能逐词对译。为了更好地传达原文的思想内容使译文更符合汉语的表达习惯、更加自然通顺，在翻译时，常常需要进行词类转换，并不一定译成汉语中的相应的词类，而是要作适当的转换。

一． 转译为动词

由于英语简单句只有一个动词，汉语句子却有多个。

E.G The shadow cast by an object is long or short according as the sun is high up in the heaven or near the horizon.(物体投影的长短取决于太阳是高挂天空还是靠近地平线。) 从中我们可以看到 副词短语according as \形容词短语high up 和介词near分别被译成了动词“取决”、“高挂”和“靠近”。

据此我们可以得出：英语中的名词、形容词、副词、动名词和介词都可以转译为动词。

1. 名词转译为动词

These depressing pumps ensure contamination-free transfer of abrasive and aggressive fluids such as acids, dyes and alcohol among others.(  在输送酸、染料、醇以及其他摩擦力大、腐蚀性强的流体时，这类压缩泵能够保证输送无污染。

2．形容词转译为动词

一些表示心里活动，心里状态的形容词作表语时，通常可以转译为动词。有些具有动词意义的形容词也可以转译为动词。E.g.  If extremely low-cost power ever to become available from large nuclear power plants, electrolytic hydrogen would become competitive.(如果能从大型核电站获得成本极低的电力，电解氢就会有更强的竞争力。  Once inside the body, the vaccine separates from the gold particles and becomes “active”.(一旦进入体内，疫苗立即与微金粒分离并“激活”。

3．副词转译为动词

  英语的很多动词在古英语里曾是动词，在翻译时常常可以将副词转译成汉语的动词，尤其是它们在原文句中作表语或状语时。

E.g   The fatigue life test is over.( 疲劳寿命试验结束了。)

4。介词转译为动词

英语中很多介词在古英语中曾是动词，汉译时我们也可以将它们转译成动词。

E.g  In any machine, input work equals output work plus work done against friction.(任何机器的输入功率都等于输出功加上克服摩擦所做的功。)

二．转译为名词

英语中的动词、代词和形容词等等可以转译为汉语的名词。

   动词转译为名词

E.g  Boiling point is defined as the temperature at which the vapor pressure is equal to that of the atmosphere.( 沸点的定义就是蒸汽的气压等于大气压时的温度。)

     Black holes act like huge drains in the universe.( 黑洞的作用像宇宙中巨大的吸管。)

   代词转译为名词

所谓代词转译为名词实际上就是把代词所代替的名词翻译出来。有些翻译理论称之为“还原”。

E.g  The radioactivity of the new element is several million times stronger than that of uranium.( 这种新元素的放射性比铀的放射性要强几百万倍。)

   形容词转译为名词

E.g  Television is different from radio in that it sends and receives a picture.( 电视和无线电的区别在于电视发送和接收的是图像。)

有时候副词，介词甚至连词也可以转译为名词

E.g  The device is shown schematically in Fig 2.(图2是这种装置的简图)

     Administrative personnel should be mathematically informed if they are to make wise decision.（管理人员要作出明智的决策，就应该懂得数学。）

     These parts must be proportionally correct. ( 这些零件的比例必须准确无误.)

三.转译为形容词

     名词转译为形容词

e.g  Gene mutation is of great importance in breeding new varieties.(在新品种培育方面,基因突变是非常重要的.)

     副词转译为形容词

当英语动词转译为汉语的名词时,修饰该动词的副词往往也随之转译为汉语的形容词.

 E. g  Variation is common to all plants whether they reproduce asexually or sexually.(变异对所有的植物来讲 ,无论是无性繁殖还是有性繁殖都是常见的.)

     动词转译为形容词

       Light waves differ in frequency just as sound waves do.(同声波一样,光波也有不同的频率.)

     转译为副词

     形容词转译为副词,英语中能转译为副词的主要是形容词,通常有以下三种情况:1. 当英语的名词转译为汉语的动词时,原来修饰名词的英语形容词就相应地转译为汉语的副词.Eg. In case of use without conditioning the electrode, frequent calibrations are required.( 如果在使用前没有调节电极,则需要经常校定.  )   2.在系动词加表语的结构中,作表语的名词转译为汉语的形容词时,原来修饰名词的英语形容词就相应地转译为汉语的副词. E.g  This experiment is an absolute necessity in determining the solubility.(对确定溶解度来说,这种试验是绝对必要的.)  3.其他形式的形容词也可以转译为副词E.g  In actual tests this point is difficult to obtain. ( 在实际的测试中,很难测到这个点.) 

   动词转译为副词

    当英语中的谓语动词后面的不定式短语或分词转译为汉语的谓语动词时,原来的谓语动词就相应地转译为汉语的副词.e.g  Rapid evaporation tends to make the steam wet.(快速蒸发往往使蒸汽的湿度加大.)

   名词转译为副词

   英语中一些具有副词含义的名词有时也可以转译成副词.E.g Quasi-stars were discovered in 1963 as a result of an effort to overcome the shortcomings of radio telescopes.  ( 类星体是1963年发现的,是人们努力克服电望远镜的缺点所取得的一项成果.)
