丰子恺在桂林有两处故居，一在榕荫路8号马房背附近，一在临桂两江镇中学校园，一处在两江泮塘岭村。

    2010年11月20日，我带着丰子恺故里桐乡市丰子恺纪念馆吴浩然副馆长去两江考察丰子恺工作和生活过的“桂师”，租住过的两江泮塘岭村。刚刚到两江不久，即接电话，母亲去世了。想想吴浩然副馆长从浙江来桂不容易，便陪他考察完毕，再陪他在两江吃午饭，之后送他回榕湖饭店，才奔丧，也未告诉他我的急奔事。

    丰子恺1938年夏初到桂林时，在马房背租屋居住数月，估计到10月底。马房背可以算是丰子恺在桂林的故居所在地。马房背在今天榕荫路8号。因为在古代，这一带离官府近，衙门的官员乘坐的马有专门的马房，这条巷子就是在官家马房的背后，故名。可惜，由于方言的原因，在丰子恺的《教师日记》里，记成了马皇背。
