话说Best Buy Canada Ltd.(我的新单位)的企业文化

On my first day of work, I joined a group of new hires for an orientation class, aimed to get us as familiar as possible about the company, about the new working environment. Our first stop is the Hub, namely cafeteria for all associates. The first sight of it brought out my tears--- all the names with pictures, titles and apartments of us new employees were being advertised on the jumbo TVs hanging on the walls of the Hub! And the guy from Human Resource Department said that it was the way they welcomed new comers and it would last as long as two weeks.

(第一天到新单位, 我参加了为一组新雇员举办的迎新课程,目的是让我们尽可能熟悉这个公司和新的工作环境. 我们的第一站是Hub, 也就是全体员工的自助餐厅. 第一眼见到它就让我流出了眼泪---所有新员工的名字, 照片,职位名称和部门名称都在各面墙上悬挂的巨大的电视中播出了! 接待我们的人力资源部门那位先生说这是他们的迎新方式,并且这种方式要持续整整两个礼拜.)

Now, let's see how they interpret the first value, 'Have fun while being the best'

Since I haven't been there long enough, I only got to witness how they celebrated the past Halloween. We had the Halloween Costume Contest at the Hub the very day. All associated attended and people dressed up so traditionally that I was totally stunned by this western festival! We employees sat in chairs at the Hub, drinking coffee and tasting snakes served by the company, all free of charge, watching the contest and finally voted the winners. The first place got a dvd player as the trophy, and coffee maker and gift cards came to the second and the third place.

Our flexible working hours.

No one asks you to strictly follow certain hours, you can start your work at whatever time you see fit, 7:30, 8:00, 8:30 or even 9:00, and then you are off 8 hours after that. If you like, you can also report to your manager that you work 9 and half hour a day and after you accumulate 8 hours, you can enjoy a day off. For some roles, they can also work two to three days at home, they call it "ROWE"--- the benefits for the company and persons eligible for the ROWE is, the company saves resources and the ROWE people save their petro fees or public transit fees---but it's just for some people. I have to work on my Intranet so I am not eligible for ROWE.

Let me show my face for the first time since I arrived here---I will scan my security pass, which is used to access every door in the buildings of the headquarters, and also enjoy a 10% discount if I buy products from the company. Looks like I have lost so many pounds, doesn't?
