Chapter One---（1）

我曾被要求写完《金银岛》（《Treasure Island》）整个故事，告诉读者所有的故事除了金银岛的位置，因为岛上仍然有财富。我拿起笔回到我父亲开的“本宝将军”客店的时候。那个老渔民第一次在我们的屋檐下开始寄居。

他第一次进入旅店门时，后面拖着吸水箱；他是一个高大、强壮、肥胖有着深棕色皮肤的男人。一条辫子留在他肮脏的蓝外套上，在他的半边脸上留有用军刀砍过的痕迹。他突然唱起了海洋之歌：“十五个人在一个死人的胸部，哟-呼-呼，和一瓶甜酒！”

“这是一个近在咫尺的小海湾”，他说，“朋友，有没有很多人陪伴你？”

爸爸告诉他没有，很少有人陪伴他。

“好吧，然后…”，他说，“这是一个给我的地方。”

他是一个很沉默的人。整天他都在小海湾边闲逛或者拿着个黄铜望远镜在悬崖边观望。每晚他坐在客厅的一角靠在火堆旁。当人们提到他的时候他不愿意说话，但是他会突然猛地抬起头，我们已经习惯他这样了。每当他散步回来，他会问沿途是否有水手经过。起初我们认为特希望有像他一样的人陪伴他，后来我们知道他想避开他们……

Chapter1

I have been asked to wriyer the whole story of Treasure Island,telling everything but the location of the island,because there is still treasure there,I take up my pen and go back to the time when my father kept the Admiral Benbow Inn.That was when the old seaman first took up his lodging under our roof.

His first came to the inn door , dragging his sea chest behind him. He was a tall，strong，heavy nut-brown man .A  pigtail fell over the shoulder  of his soiled blue coat,and a cut from a saber went across one cheek.He broke out into a sea-song.“Fifteen men on the dead man’s chest—Yo-ho-ho,and a bottle of run！”

“This is a handy cove,’saya he,’Do you get much company ,mate?”

My father told him no,very little company.

“Well,then ,”said he,”this is the place for me.”

He was a very silent man.All day he hung round the coe or upon the cliffs with a brass telescope.All evening ,he sat in  a corner of the parlor next to the fire.He would not speak when spoken to but would look up sudden and fierce,and we learned to let him be ,Every day when he came back from his walk,he would ask if any sailors had gone by along the road.At first we thought he wanted company of men like himself,then we saw that he wanted to avoid them.
