Seawaymax

The term Seawaymax refers to vessels which are the maximum size that can fit through the canal locks of the St. Lawrence Seaway, linking the inland Great Lakes of North America with the Atlantic Ocean.[1]

Seawaymax vessels are 740 feet (225.6 m) in length, 78 feet (23.8 m) wide, and have a draft of 26.51 feet (8.08 m) and a height above the waterline of 35.5 metres (116 ft). A number of lake freighters larger than this size cruise the Great Lakes and cannot pass through to the Atlantic Ocean. The size of the locks limits the size of the ships which can pass and so limits the size of the cargoes they can carry. The record tonnage for one vessel on the Seaway is 28,502 tons of iron ore while the record through the larger locks of the Great Lakes Waterway is 72,351 tons. Most new lake vessels, however, are constructed to the Seawaymax limit to enhance versatility by allowing the possibility of off-Lakes use. SS Edmund Fitzgerald, famous for her wreck in 1975, was the first ship constructed close to Seawaymax size.

Setouchmax

Setouchmax corresponds to a class of bulk of the required size stopover ports of lamer Seto inland, this area is particularly known for shipbuilding and the needs of the steel industry (including iron ore).

To gain access to all the major ports, the length is limited to 299.9 meters (overall) and letirant water 16.1 meters, more pronounced for ore constraint, a new class of ships has emerged especially for this area. Their typical deadweight of 205,000 tons.

Dunkirkmax

Dunkirkmax means a class bulk carriers whose dimensions allow them to stop at the port of Dunkerque (Dunkirk in English). Many bulk commodities shipped from the port, including iron ore transported by ore and unloaded by cranes, to metallurgical industries.

The locks of the eastern part of the port limit the length to 289 meters and width 45 meters, the maximum deadweight thus possible is about 175 000 tonnes, size Capesize vessels.

Newcastlemax

Maximum beam横梁宽度 50 meters, and maximum length overall of 300 meters Refers to the largest vessel able to enter the port of Newcastle, Australia at about 185,000 DWT.(澳大利亚纽卡斯尔)

Malaccamax : LOA 330 m / 20 m draft / 300,000 DWT, Refers to the largest vessel that can pass through the Straits of Malacca.

Bulkers are segregated into six major size categories: small, handysize, handymax, panamax, capesize, and very large. Very large bulk and ore carriers fall into the capesize category but are often considered separately.
