My first home club was Bjorkliden Golf. It has more than 5000
members and is the bigest golf club in Sweden, but
many of the members have never played golf in
the original home court. It is situated 250 km
north of Arctic Circle. In the long winter
period, you don't see the sun but often beautiful
northern light. It is an excellent ski
resort (http://www.bjorkliden.com/?q=node/8)
where you can ski at all levels including
helicopter skiing. In contrast, around the middle summer the sun
goes round in sky but not down, an experience attractive for
tourists.
The Bjorkliden Golf Court is one of the 100 most beautiful golf
courts in the world. It is surrounded by breathtaking views
of untouched Lapland landscape.
However, one can play golf there only in a few
months of the summer
period. On this court, often you play the ball
down hill or up hill 50-60 meters, or from this hill to another
hill. One has to carry the golf bag and walk on
the small mountain path. And, there is no bunker at all!
In one summer holiday, I stayed there for one
week to
play golf. I don't
remember the result, the memory is only the
fantastic view
from the tees and greens. It was
more difficult to play the ball up hill than down hill. However,
the most difficult part was putting after 8 o'clock in the evening!
Because mosquitos came from everywhere attacking
me, so I could not stand still
for some seconds, despite of long cloth
and protection cream and spray on the
hand.
It is some golf
experience you should have
once in your life.
