1、The Dog In The Manger 牛槽里的狗

    Once a dog was taking a nap（小睡）in the manger（牛槽） of an ox. It was full of hay（干草）. But soon the ox came back from his work to the manger. He wanted to eat his own hay. Then the dog awoke, stood up and barked（吠叫） at the ox. The ox said to the dog, “Do you want to eat this hay, too?”

   “Of course not,” said the dog.

   “Then, go away and let me eat my own hay.”

   “Oh, no. You go away and let me sleep.”

   “What a selfish（自私的） dog! He will neither eat the hay himself, nor let me eat it !” said the ox to himself.

    1、ox 牛、阉牛

    2、be full of 充满了

    3、came back from his work 工作回来

    4、bark at 对……吠叫，对……大声喊叫

    5、go away 走开

    6、neither…nor 既不……也不

    7、What a selfish dog! 感叹句。多自私的狗呀！

          2.The Lion, The Bear And The Fox（狮子、熊与狐狸）

     Long ago a lion and a bear saw a kid（孩子）. They sprang upon（一跃而起） it at the same time（同时）. The lion said to the bear, “I caught（catch 抓住的过去式） this kid first, and so this is mine.”

    "No, no,"  said the bear.“I found（find 发现的过去式） it earlier than you, so this is mine.” And they fought（fight 打架的过去式） long and fiercely（激烈地）. At last both of them got very tired（累的） and could no longer fight.

    A fox who hid（hide 藏的过去式） himself behind a tree not far away and was watching the fight between the lion and the bear, came out and walked in between them, and ran off（跑掉） with the kid.

    The lion and the bear both （两者都）saw the fox, but they could not even catch the fox.

    The lion said to the bear, “We have fought for nothing. That sly（狡猾的） fox has got the kid away.”

注释：

    1、earlier than you 比你早

    2、both of them got very tired 两人都累坏了

    3、could no longer fight 不能再打了

    4、far away 远处 not far away 不远处

    5、the fight between the lion and the bear 狮子和熊之间的战争

    6、came out 走出来

    7、walked in between them 走到他们中间

    8、fought for nothing 打了一架却什么也没有得到

    9、got … away 把 ……拿走了，带走了
