“敢上刀山下火海”表示对某人某事的忠心或决心，在傈傈族中却真有其实事。

每年的二月初八是傈傈族的“刀杆节”，好汉们凭徒手赤足拾级攀登锋利钢刀做成的刀梯。

下“火海”者赤足在通红的碳火中疾跑、跳跃和翻滚，用舌头舔烧的通红的铁犁头，

用光脚踩在红犁头上，甚至能把红犁头用牙齿叼住。这样的习俗活动已有500余年的历史。
