景德镇市域春秋时属楚东境，秦为九江郡番县辖地，汉属豫章郡鄱阳县。东晋时称新平镇。唐武德四年（621年）置新平县。镇为县属，因在昌江之南，故又称为昌南镇。八年撤县，开元四年（716年）复置，县治设在新昌江口，故称新昌县。天宝元年（742年）改名浮梁。镇先后隶于新昌、浮梁县。宋真宗景德元年（1004年）因镇产青白瓷质地优良，遂以皇帝年号为名置景德镇，并沿用至今。（介绍来自网络资料）
