Francis Ouimet and almost unknown 21-year-old Boston amateur with caddie of the Country Club. Fire the shot around the world when he defeated Harry Vardon and Ted Ray, the great English Professionals, in a dramatic playoff. Here on the 18^th Green. Ouimet at the screen left, lines up his approach putt. On the Eve of golden anniversary③ of Ouimet’s victory in which he was assisted by a 10-year-old caddie, Eddie Lowery. What could be more fitting than a visit with the two men as they walk the old familiar course.

Francis： “ Eddie. Do you remember this hole？”

Eddie：   “ I’ll remember that last hole tied the famous Vardon and Ray.”

Francis： “ Yes, but you know these traps were not there then.”

Eddie：   “ No.”

Francis： “ It was just the grass bank④.”

Eddie：   “ But you made a great chip-up 5 feet from the hole, and I don’t believe it took you more than 6 or 7 seconds to knot that ball in it and tie at the 304. When you come up here in the playoff this hole with the completely different hole. Francis. You remember that?”

Francis： “ Yes indeed I do.

Eddie：   “ When you put your second shot on the green and, of course, that time I knew you won the title.”

Francis： “ Well, I never realizes that until I head the little putt for forward.”

Eddie：   “ Well, it was a great day.”

Francis： “ Yes, it was.”
